If you're reading this message...
Hello!

If you're reading this message then something's probably gone wrong with livejournal.com and we've sent you from hogsmeadewkends there over to here.

This is Sas (theaeblackthorn on livejournal as well) one of the mods over at hogwartsishome on livejournal.

In this section in a bit I'm going to put a guide about logging into DreamWidth with an openID. Explaining what they are as well.

If you have any problems go to houseunity on AIM or email hih.officials@gmail.com. There should always be one of us about to help.

What is OpenID?

OpenID eliminates the need for multiple usernames across different websites,

simplifying your online experience.

Put simply, you use an exisiting account to log into another site. In this case

we're going to be looking at using your existing AOL, Yahoo or Google accounts to

log into DreamWidth.

Getting an OpenID from:

A Google Account
An AOL Account - THE EASIEST
A Yahoo Account

There are others available, but I'm not doing them all. To find out more see the OpenID website.

Google.com

To use an exisiting Yahoo account as an openID, navigate to: http://google.com/profiles/me.

This is the screen you'll see. It will ask you to sign in, which you should do:

The next screen that is displayed will have your openID on it. I've highlighted it

below, it's the contents of the address bar:

This identifier is what you'll need to use to log in to DreamWidth. Please read the logging into DreamWidth instructions here.

AOL

Your AOL openID will be: openid.aol.com/screenname.

For example, my AOL screename is TheaBlackthorn so my AOL OpenID is:

openid.aol.com/TheaBlackthorn

This identifier is what you'll need to use to log in to DreamWidth. Please read the logging into DreamWidth instructions here.

Yahoo.com

To use an exisiting Yahoo account as an openID, navigate to: http://openid.yahoo.com/.

This is the screen you'll see. Click the 'get started' button.

It will ask you to sign in, which you should do:

And finally, it'll give you your unique identifier:

This identifier is what you'll need to use to log in to DreamWidth. Please read the logging into DreamWidth instructions here.

Logging into DreamWidth with an OpenID

Go to: http://www.dreamwidth.org/openid/.

You will see the below page. Enter the unique identifier you have got from any of

the previous sites.

In this example I am using my AOL one: openid.aol.com/TheaBlackthorn

It will then take you to the site your ID is from, for example AOL, Google or Yahoo.

You will need to confirm this account is yours by signing in.

Once you have signed in you will be redirected to DreamWidth. You will see the below

screen which will confirm you are logged in.

Setting your Email address

This is important. If you wish to receive comment notification you must set your email address. Click the link at point 2 in the above screen shot will allow you to do that.

You're done!

Now go to http://hogsmeadewkends.dreamwidth.org/ and act just as you were signed in with a livejournal account. But remember to join the community!
