Hey everyone!

I just wanted to know your opinions on the movies :) I really liked the 1st one, the second one was good too (although I haven't seen it as many times.) I liked the third one... but mostly the second half. The first half seemed like just a series of one-liners. But it was gorgeous and I love how they've de-robed the Trio -- in the sense that we saw them outside of their Hogwarts robes and more like real people :)

What do you guys think?

I think 'de-robing' is all right since they normally don't wear uniforms in the books however, I think people made too much emphasis on it as if it were more about being hip and teenagers than real people like you pointed out.

I personally hated the first movie. They focused too much on introducing the audience into the wizarding world that they barely dealt with the plot. I thought the second was fine. The third could've been better and I know some people who only watch the movies like the second better but I think that it's because the second fit perfectly with the alotted time but the third didn't. It had too much to tell with not enough time and it left people confused. Those who haven't read the books anyways. Now I'm only waiting for the 2 1/2 hour 4th film. That should be great.

i know what you mean. i've heard people be like "they're trying too hard to make hermione look cool. she's not cool, she's a geek." but i think it's more realistic this way. haha yeah. try and fit THAT book in 2 1/2 hours? no way! The second one was probably my least favourite. But it was also my least favourite book, so maybe that's why.

I hope they deal with the 4th one in a better way than the third. I don't know. It just felt so jumpy for the first 1/2 of the movie. Like they took one page from each chapter and made a scene about it :)

I didn't like the second book/movie either, but they didn't leave out too much which usually irks me. Just keep the story straight and I'm ok. more or less.

I don't know, I was hoping the new director would help but I think I heard somewhere he actually convinced the screenwriter to make it 2 1/2 hour length rather than 2 movies.

I really dislike the third movie. The first and second weren't all that bad, but I passionatly dislike the third movie.

I disagreed with seeing Draco Malfoy in "Muggle" attire. If he is a pureblood, and so passionate about it, why would be want to be seen in Muggle clothing.

I also really don't like that the movie didn't show Harry winning the Quidditch world cup. As well as no Oliver Wood!

It also kind of annoys me that Harry doesn't receive that broom until the very end of the movie.

I could name a million other things I didn't like, but I have to go stop the noodles from boiling over in the kitchen!

The third one is definitely my favorite. I loved how the end tied together the way it did. :P I also enjoyed all the humor.

I wish some of them would 'de-rob' even more, lol!

That's the same thing I thought! We have our minds straight in the gutter don't we? XD

The first one was okay, but I hated how they delt with the whole Norbert situation, as well as leaving out the potions chamber. I also didn't like Ron going into the Forbidden Forest instead of Neville. The trio, with the exception of Ron, didn't seem to know what they were doing most of the time. Fluffy and the troll were awful CG creations. However, it was the only movie that Hermione had canon!hair in, as well as the movie with the best ending so far.

The second was better acting-wise, but I hated how Hermione got all of Ron's (as well as Dumbledore's) lines. They shouldn't have left out Lucius and Arthur's brawl in Diagon Alley, and the Dueling Club was a far cry from how I imagined it, not to mention how it was in the book. It seemed like more of a play than an actual club. This movie was the beginning of Hermione's hair turning into Emma's hair, as well as her "girl power" streak. The spider scene was okay, as was the Chamber of Secrets one. The ending was so Disney that I felt like screaming.

The third was the best by far; best directing, best CG's, best acting, and best score. It also had the best and most obvious R/Hr moments. However, it was still far from perfect. Hermione has turned into Emma, and the script writing still leaves out whole entire sub plots, not to mention the fact that it's turning Ron into a swatty little nancy boy. I hated Lupin's mustache, but felt he was cast perfectly, as was Sirius. I'm also disappointed that we didn't get to see Harry's head floating in midair by the Shrieking Shack. I'm still bitter about not showing them winning the Quidditch Cup, though, and I won't even go into the whole Firebolt fiasco. The ending on this one was the worst of all, but the credits rocked my socks.

Hopefully the fourth movie will have improved scriptwriting (for once), as well as a better ending.

I remember I fell completely in love with the first movie when it came out. I saw it opening night and it just amazed me - the Quidditch, Hagrid, Diagon Alley, everything about it. But I was also younger then and not quite so cynical and I didn't expect quite as much as I do now.

The second one I liked, but it's still my least-favorite. Maybe because COS is also my least favorite book, I don't know, but the movie just doesn't do it for me. The only part I remember being really thrilled about was Moaning Mrytle, I think she's a fantastic character and I loved seeing her on screen, exactly how I'd envisioned her in the books.

The third movie had awesome effects and directing and such, but the story wasn't as good for me. I don't mind editing/revising the story for film but they left so much out, I was both disappointed and a little confused, even though I'd read the book several times. Some of the best scenes, particularly the Shrieking Shack, seemed rushed to me. Draco's character was ruined, in my opinion, and I have to agree with the grip that Emma Watson is too pretty for Hermione. I don't know how they can make her look even prettier for the Yule Ball - if they include it, I hope they don't whittle GoF down to a two-and-a-half hour movie. SO many good, important things would be left out if they did.

Anyway. The first movie is definitely my favorite, simply because it still holds a little of the excitement and amazement for me that it did the very first time I saw it. :)

Something I wanted to add:

My little brother has never read the books and he didn't understand most of the third movie. I had to sit for hours explaining to him after the movie was over.

And though I don't mind that, I wish they had made it a little more understandable. Explaining MWPP more in depth, that Lupin had helped create the map, and why Harry's patronus was a stag.

Well, for me. The third movie definitely captured the spirit of the books. It gave off a feel of something really magical compared to the other two. Although storywise.. I guess the 2nd movie was better.

Things I hate:
>> Chris Columbus and his daughter.. Blah
>> No Peeves
>> No Oliver Wood in the third movie
>> Line-stealing Hermione
>> Less Draco scenes (They should show how he torments Harry and stuff)

But all in all, I just think that they could have done better.

The third movie was the best in my opinion, but it definetely had it's set of flaws. First of all, what the Bloody Hell happened to the campus of HogwartS? Did everything get up & move?! & Did they invite the magical builders to come in & build a "magical bridge"? That made me mad.
Secondly, the lack of Quidditch was horrid. I despised that. There should have been more, not less, especially since Quidditch was a big deal in the book.
Third, I didn't like the special effects with the dementors. They could have done better.
Fourth, THem being in muggle clothing all of the time threw off the modd of the movie. Didn't particularly like that.
Fifth, I was not a supporter of the "Let's give everybody else ROn's lines" thing. That pissed me off.
Sixth, I enjoyed Richard Harris more as Dumbledore, but we couldn't change that, could we? :( R.I.P...
& Lastly (for what I can think of right now) what the hell was with the ending?! Lord. That was pathetic. & getting the broom at the end of the book!? What the hell?! Talk about not sticking to the book.
OH & the dementors looked like skulls with ripped up sheets on them x.x
& the lack of explaining the Mauraders sucked.
Wow, that made it sound like that movie was the worst, but there were a lot of ups, also & it just had a good flow to it. I liked it the best.

Hmm... if I forget about the books, PoA was definately my favorite. But for me, it did not follow my vision of the book very well.

And I am still fully convinced that Ringwraiths are much scarier than Nazgul :P

Ringwraiths are Nazgul? I assume you mean that you think Dementors are scarier than Nazgul? Or Ringwraiths are scarier than Dementors?

I do think Dementors are scarier, myself. They feed on everyone, all normal people. And they have powers to suck all the happiness out of you and leave you with despair. I dunno... they're both scary as hell, though.

*donks head repeatedly* Its near 1 am. I'm brain-dead.

I *meant* Ringwraiths scarier than Dementors (on cinema, at least)... I don't know why... must be the scream >_

Ahh... no worries. =) I still get the urge to call Dumbledore "Gandalf" at times. Heheh... Yeah, the "Shire. Baggins." is creepy. And the scream... God, I can't believe that was actually Fran Walsh's scream. That's really quite terrifying. =) Poor Peter Jackson.

The first two movies seemed really childish. And, while they stayed more to the books than PoA did, the FEEL of the books wasn't there. So, they're fun to watch, but eh.

PoA had the FEEL of the book more than the first two movies, but the changes really pissed me off. It's definitely my favorite of the three, but the way I described it is that it seems like somebody scanned the book and put everything that they got out of it into the movie. So, things were left out that shouldn't have been and things went unexplained. I spent hours writing a review/bitchrant about it in my journal after I saw it, so I'm not going to rewrite all of that again. lol
