crazymol4588 posted a question on why Luna Lovegood was sorted in Ravenclaw. I have a similar question to hers...
Why was Cho sorted into Ravenclaw? As I have read about her in the fifth book, she really does not strike me as someone intelligent. Do any of you know why she was placed there?
She may not seem intelligent whenever Harry comes in contact with her, but I'm sure she is if she was placed in Ravenclaw. Either that, or she values intelligence and school very highly.
It's also hard to come off seeming witty and book smart when you're crying your eyes out over a dead SO. :P
I suppose the same reason Neville isn't in another house... he doesn't seem very brave, but in his heart, he really is. And it shows greatly in Book 5.
I suppose Hermione has a hidden bravery that goes above her smartness (a bit like me- I'm pretty book-smart, but I'm in Gryffindor).
Well, I always thought it was what was most important to you. Like for me, I'm not the biggest coward out there, and I'm very much a leader, but I don't hold that to high standards- I appreciate intelligence more... you know? And so I always thought Hermione should go into Ravenclaw, because intelligence is what she holds to heart.. but hey, maybe it's not. Maybe it's a facade, and all of us don't know the real Hermione. :)
I think party because she's extremely loyal to Harry and Ron (which is also a Puff trait, but still), and because when she needs to be, she's very brave.
Plus, she uses her intelligence in a rather daring way if you think about it, since she's always solving the puzzles that get the trio into trouble.
Maybe we Gryffs just aren't as stupid as everyone likes to think ;-)
I wouldn't say stupid... reckless, maybe. :) Hermione doesn't seem reckless, but hey, I could see her doing something without thinking if there's no time for thought.
Yeah, I noticed that too. Maybe Miss Rowling was told that Hermione at some point needs to act like a Gryffindor. :) Or maybe it's like a character thing... like when we're younger, we're obsessive over stupid things, and acting however we were brought up... on our parents' morals, mostly. But as we grow up, we begin to discover ourselves... Jesus Christ, I'm being a crazy 'claw again. I look into things too much. :)
Just because she's an emotional dunce, doesn't mean she's an intellectual one. :~shrugs~: What she doesn't have in empathy and consideration, she must make up for in the classroom.
You don't have to be necessarily intelligent to get into Ravenclaw.
*reconsiders* Okay, well you have to be at least a little smart. But what's more important is a love of learning. If you don't have that, you don't belong in Ravenclaw. So maybe Cho just loves to learn.
