Debate Volunteers?
Don't forget about volunteering for the debate on Sunday!
http://www.livejournal.com/community/hogwartshouses/232095.html

We have 3 Ravenclaw looking to go for it. One Slytherin...and no one else.
We at least need people to volunteer to represent the other houses.

After the volunteers have, well, volunteered, I'll either IM or comment to you to see which of the multiple house volunteers will not only be around on Sunday, but wouldn't mind giving up the time to sit online and debate with others.

Have fun in Hogsmeade this weekend...

Servant of the Mistress of Hogsmeade

::snickers:: Just had to add that. ^_^;

Just threw my name in the hat for the debate.

will do my best to keep my sons (ages 5 and 7 1/2) off the computer on Sun. With my extensive DVD/VHS collection and the amount of toys they have (my oldest son is my parents first grandchild and my husband is an only child. You should see us at Christmas. Gah) that shouldn't be difficult *LOL*

I'm not sure how this debate will work, or what time I would need to be on, this being my first Hogsmeade weekend.

If someone would clue me in I would be glad to participate.

Fry,
Slytherin.

With the debate...Bunny usually posts a question in a different community and makes a link. The chosen member from each house goes to that link and finds a debate question. The question is then debated upon by the four members through comments in that entry. (Sometimes others will join in on the debate...but they don't count in the tally of points)
There really is no set time for the debate to start, but its always been on Sunday.
Hope that answered your questions.

Urd'd...Lol, cute icon.

I'll give it a shot. Not sure how good I will do, but you never know until you try, eh?

Only one? man. In that case, can I retract? I'd feel bad if somebody else was itching for a spot and my (likely hungover) butt got in the way.

I know that non-debaters are allowed to participate in-post, but is it possible (or ethical) to discuss the question to be resolved in the house communities with the debaters, Family Feud-like? "Abortion!" "Welfare!" "Gun Control!" "...I'm going to have to go with Foreign Affairs, Ray." *BZZZT*

(And yes, at this point, I am well aware that I am a pain in the ass)

Hahaha you're not a pain in the ass. While I enjoy the thought of the "Family Feud" idea (which we may have to try just to see the chaos...just at a later date) there really is no time. The debate happens in real time...it would take too much time to talk about the topic in the house commmunity...especially if you start debating with one specific person. Theres not really time to go back and ask the counsel what they thought of a previous response.

Haha figured this icon would be a good one to use. ^_~

What are the debates normally about? I've never seen one, so I was just wondering what to expect. Harry Potter things or things of another nature?

The debate questions are anything about Harry Potter. The first question was based on the myth/rumor that Remus Lupin was actually James Potter. We just had to pose our side and then basically, making factual points, argue about the question possed. The first debate ended with all four debators agreeing that Lupin was not James...so we couldn't really "debate" the issue very much. The second debate was much better. ^_^;
