I dunno. I'm rather strange, so I loved it. Bellatrix killed Sirius-Bellatrix is *in* it, she's one of my favourite characters. Love her, and love the fact Black is *dead*. Got annoying after a while. Hated him. Taunted my favourite character, the bastard... But anyway, I liked the ending of OotP, and i personally hope Sirius doesn't come back.

O really? Woah! Brutal. Youdidnt like him at all?. Why has it gotten anoying that he is *dead*
[identity profile] cookie-wolf.livejournal.com on October 1st, 2004 07:47 pm (UTC)
My fave character is Severus, and I'm very very overprotective of the ones I love. So, Sirius and James always taunted and mocked him, and I know how that feels cause I'm an outcast at school and people always mock *me*. So I hate that Black and Potter did that to him (as I said, I'm overprotective). And, well, I just hate him for that reason. I hate James and Harry, too...

I think that the mirror is definitely going to come into play somehow. How? I don't know. But there's a reason that he got that mirror. JKR wouldn't write in something that seemingly important for no reason.

As for the end. I was unaffected by Sirius' death. I sort of liked him in PoA, and I like Marauder era/fanfiction Sirius...but overall, I don't care much for canon Sirius, and I don't really see where all the Sirius hype comes from.

Personally, I hope that he stays dead. And not even so much from a 'I don't like this character' point of view. Sirius' death was lame. Bringing him back would not only be lamer, but it would be a total cop out.

Big death of a main character in OotP? Lies.

Before the book came out and all the speculation. I never, once thought that it was Sirius because I never considered him a main character.

I think that Arthur's death would have been better as far as evoking a response from me. Hell...Hagrid's death would have made me feel worse, and that's saying something...

Harry's REACTION to the death affected me. It's just that the death itself...didn't.

I'm assuming you mean Sirius. I think J.K. Rowling has made it pretty clear (in interviews and such) that he won't be returning. He's dead and will stay that way, which is a pity since I really liked the man despite his fucked-upness... or maybe because of it.

I'm not sure why he died; maybe it was a way to make the evilness of Voldemort more real, both to the readers and to Harry. After all, we only had things that happened 15 years ago to remind us of this. I think for Harry it's quite an important reminder since he never really knew his parents, which probably makes their deaths more of an abstract loss, whereas Sirius was a person he knew and had at least begun to love.

I think in part, the death is also a catalyst. The prophecy says that Voldemort and the one he marked (which we will assume for now is Harry) have to duke it out, because one has to die for the other to live. Harry, however, isn't going to seek Voldemort out willingly. Voldie is going to have to weed Harry out and motivate him to want to fight.

Harry's sheltered and protected by many friends, 'family', and so on. The most prominent of these have to be disposed of before the big battle. Sirius is one. Dumbledore is another. I sense that a Weasley is going to be thrown to the scrap heap soon as well.

Dumbledore is another.

My pet theory is that Dumbledore lives just long enough to see Voldemort die, due to two of his middle names. Brian Boru was a warlord / leader in Ireland around 1000. He led attack after attack on the Vikings. He eventually died in the final battle. After the leader of the Vikings stabbed him fatally, Boru beheaded him before bleeding to death. After this battle, the Vikings turned around and went home, but Ireland became a mass of clans without one leader, creating civil war for centuries. Percival is well-known enough from the King Arthur legend. He was the only knight pure (or 'white', the latin word for which being 'alba') enough to lay eyes on the Holy Grail. He went too far though, tried to touch it, and died. After this, the kingdom of Arthur dissolved.

I'm not sure who Wulfric was or what the heck a Dumbledore is, but I'm placing my money for Dumbeldore to die in book 7... after he explains to Harry what the 1923 pages preceding were about.

Yes, I agree.

I don't think Dumbledore will be killed though, at least not until the final battle, there's too much invested in the idea that he's the only one Voldemort's ever been afraid of. Also, he needs to be around throughout the whole series since he plays such an important part as mentor and father figure to Harry. And quite frankly, I've always seen it as a battle between Voldemort and Dumbledore rather than between Voldemort and Harry.

I think you might be right on the Weasley part, unfortunately. Molly's bout with the boggart feels like a hint here. And I really hope it's Percy; I can't stand the little prat.

Well... I like the ending. But I'm a whore for angst. I like(d) Sirius. I can hope that he comes back. However, I believe he is gone for good. Hopefully Remus can guide him as a father figure, more responsibly than Sirius could hope to do.

I also thinks that even though the angsty-ness of Harry started to grow with Cedric's death, this is a MAJOR turning point. In my little twisted mind, Dark!Harry is on the rise. <3 I hope to see Harry more harsh and cruel and angry and depressed and dark. Yup, yup. I'm weird.

Just as long as JKR doesn't kill off my other two fav characters, as Sirius was #3. I'm gonna have to sport my "Pluto <3's Devon Murray" icon again... or carry around my hand-made Draco doll. Draco and Seamus, wee~! Don't kill them off, please! *hyper*

I think Sirius is dead, but I think he's going to come back into play somehow with the mirrors. I think Harry doesn't know how to use the mirror to contact him yet, but I do think that he will contact Sirius beyond the veil.

As for the ending, I think it matches up with what J.K. has been telling us for years, her books are going to get darker and there will be more deaths. I think book 6 is going to be worse.

I read on a rumour site that maybe the people who fall behind the veil ome out as deatheaters. or get their soul sucked out by one. What bugged me about the veil is that VOICES COULD BE HEARD. and not only by Potter, Lovegood as well. she said her mother had died but i dont remeber any of the other details sorry. I never thought Sirius was dead until i readan interview when jkr said he ws defianntly gone

I'm not glad he's dead. I dislike the angst-fest Harry has turned into. I've found that, the people who have the most tragedy in their lives are less apt to fall into the rut of, "omg, my friend's dad almost just died. That sucks... FOR ME!" Thing is, now that Sirius is dead, we can expect more whiny 'who-am-i-why-is-this-happening-to-me' from Harry. eeeew.

I hope that, now that he's dead, he stays that way. If not, it turns soap. Tune in next week to see if Hermione is carrying Harry's baby... or Ron's... or BOTH!

Most people also don't have to worry about whether or not they were the cause of their friend's dad's near death experience by somehow turning into a snake and striking at him, either.

Really? Most people I know who have suffered anything sort of remotely like that do go through dark twisted periods where they get very angsty and angry, especially if it happens in the adolescent years which can already be quite angsty and angry for some people. I thought he was just acting like anybody would.

-Audra, Gryffindor
[identity profile] saccarineayako.livejournal.com on October 1st, 2004 08:10 pm (UTC)
The thing is, even if they do go through angsty periods, I've found that people like that don't like to share it, because it opens old wounds which don't need to be opened, or it makes you (or makes you feel like) you're searching for sympathy.

Granted, everybody has a 'my life sucks sometimes' moment. However, in my experience, the people doing the loudest complaining (that is, the Harry-esque complaint) are the ones who have the least to complain about. I understand a couple 'omg does cho like me?' moments. I understand a few 'man, it sucks that these people died,' moments. But when JKR takes to writing all but entire pages in caps, that's a little bit of an excess.

Totally agree. I mentioned this in my application here, but I dislike Harry's attitude in the 5th book. I don't like how he took his attitude out on his friends - "well I did this" and "I did that" and how he gets full of himself. Then after Sirius bites it, he takes it out on Dumbledore and yells at him. I'm not saying that he doesn't have the right to be angry; it's how he deals with his anger that bothers me. That, and I'm not a fan of overly angsty people.

I liked Sirius a lot, but right before I picked up the fifth book, not one but TWO of myf riends were like "oh he dies", so I read it kind of dreading that, like it would be THE ending. And then it wasn't THE ending, and I was happy. Not that I'm happy that she killed Sirius, because I liked him and thought he was a good influence on Harry, and it sucks that Harry keeps getting kicked in the balls, but because it was a damn good ending.

The timeturner is Hermione's, though, and she got it from McGonagall to help with classes that she dropped in Goblet of Fire, so she probably doesn't have it anymore.

[kneejerk]

I never liked Sirius. I pointed, I laughed.

[/kneejerk]

During the book, I was on pins and needles - I was really freaked out when I thought Minerva was going to die. But when I knew it was Sirius, it made a lot of sense. He was never a very deep character. He never matured past being 16 year old, mentally, and even though he has a pretty decent excuse (he probably clung to those memories during his time at Azkaban so desperately that he became unable to progress beyond that state), there still wasn't much going on with him. Aside from the "Oh rats, my family hates me, woe!" thing, what you saw was what you got. He was arrogant and rash, and it got him killed. His only real purpose was to hang out, poke Snape with a stick, and make Harry feel better.

I think he had to die: for Harry to get to the mental state he needs to be in later, and because there was nowhere else for his character to go.

If you notice, the characters that started minor and are now growing, have some interesting things developing. For example, Snape. His story is slowly unfolding and he is gaining more and more signifigance - Sirius was just there. There's no real reason for characters who do not contribute to stick around. Lupin is on a similar level, but he didn't hold enough impact on Harry's life if he was offed.

Sorry if that was a little jumbled, I'm multi-tasking.

Much as I hate to admit it, I think Sirius is gone for good. I think it would defeat the purpose of his death to bring him back, you know? Send the wrong sort of message.
As long as JKR doesn't kill Remus, I'm good. Remus needs to kill Peter. He needs to. There is no God, as far as I am concerned, if Remus dies and Peter lives.
Why yes, Remus is my favorite character. He's been through more than enough already, he doesn't need to die.

While I could quite see Harry trying to get a time-turner, I couldn't see him actually getting a hold of one and using it - and if he did, I don't think he'd be successful.
Sirius, in my opinion, is dead and gone. Bringing him back to life would be rather an anti-climax after the pain Harry's gone through in losing him.
