Well, this is a little silly....
Well this is a little silly, but I'm curious to know:

How do you feel about inter-house dating?

Fanon-wise, Its usually seen as a big no-no, especially for Slyth/Gryff dating. At least in the fics I read. Canon never really states, as far as I can tell, what is and isn't good.

I don't care really. I'm Slytherin, and I'm dating I very, very, very recently got dumped by a Gryffindor. Now, I'll never have anything against the house and would date a member of Gryffindor if I found someone who fit the house or was sorted into it (*glaces around* ... SEAMUS!!). I think its silly in the books and fics. All stemmed from a rivalry. Though, its also a clique type thing... Its rare, or at least it was, to see a punked out teen boy dating the Homecoming Queen. I can kinda see that within the books/fics/movies. Cliques that can sometimes come together, but rarely do because of social boundries. Which BTW, I think is silly. If all that actually made any sense... I'd be surprised.

I understand. I understand very well. *giggles* But really, I wasn't saying sites... You always see IN the fics, "Harry! You're dating a SLYTHERIN?! That's so WRONG!" Or something to that extent. As I said, maybe its just the fics I read.

I think inter-house dating is not a problem at all. o_O; I mean, people who are alike normally do well as friends, but as significant others.. there tends to be problems. You know? Like if they're both opinionated and proud, they're going to get into fights alll the time. But if one was opinionated and proud and the other didn't care, let's say, then it'd go better. So I think inter-house dating is actually better than not. Especially with the house cliches. (For example, I'm a Ravenclaw, and I hate getting told I'm wrong. If I go out with a really smart Ravenclaw who's always correcting me.. there will be problems. Many, many problems. Haha.)

Well Ginny dated a Ravenclaw for a while and I think the only problem there was that Ron didn't like it... And Harry sorta went out with Cho, so canon doesn't seem to have a problem with that (though I'm assuming that Gryf/Slyth would be a pretty big no-no considering their, uh, classroom relations).

Honestly, I think it would be better to date people out of your own house though. That way you wouldn't have to live with them after things ended in a horrible breakup. ;)

Thanks for point that out, I went braindead for a minute and forgot about that.

And out-of-house would be better. I can't handle being in the same classroom as that girl who dumped me. I can't imagine having to live with her after all this too!

Don't forget that Percy dated ....that Ravenclaw...Penny? *is blanking tonight*

And Cho and Cedric, of course.

Yup, that too! So if we judge inter-house relationships by the evidence given in the books... It's ok to date a Ravenclaw, but that's about it.

I think any pairing with a Slytherin from another house(except maybe Ravenclaw) needs to be explained in a fic. If it's just a "Harry and Pansy saw each other and fell in luve!" type of fic, then it's a mary sue and I don't like those type of fics.

I think all pairings are great but it obvious that the 3 other houses don't like Slytherin kids very much, so it needs to be realistic enough for me to imagine a Slytherin/Griff getting together.

First off, I don't really see it seen as a big no-no in fanon. It's EVERYWHERE in fanon. Unless, you're talking about the opinions of the characters in the stories. In which case, I think the only issue is really with Slytherins dating Gryffindors and Huffles, or Gryffs, Ravers, or Huffles that are dating Slytherins. Slytherins are very exclusive, and I think that people take that to an extreme in the fanon. I do think, canonically, most Slytherins wouldn't be caught dead dating a Gryffindor or a Slytherin, I don't think there would be so much of an issue with dating a Ravenclaw.

Why do I see this? for some reason, my mind splits off the 4 houses and pairs them off: Gryffies & Huffles and Slytherins & Ravenclaws. While this isn't the only way indiv. students can pair off, this is typically how I see the world of Hogwarts.

I'm a Slytherin dating a Ravenclaw. I think the match works quite well, we share plenty of traits, and...well, me being a SlytherClaw...we've got enough alike, and enough differences to keep things interesting.

In the end, it really comes down to individuals and personality matches more than anything.

It sort of reminds me of sports rivalries more than anything. That's your TEAM, but you're a person beyond that.

Of course, I was almost disowned by my Syracuse born-&-raised paternal grandparents for choosing to go to St. John's University because of college basketball (discounting the fact that there was a huge fight because I went to an intercollegiate university they didn't approve of and yet not a word was spoken about my 22-yr old cousin's 7 and 3 year olds... but ANYWAY)... so some people do take it more seriously than others. I couldn't, for example, see Hermione dating a Slytherin, but Parvati or Lavender Brown might. To Parvati, some team from my hometown is playing this weekend, so we might as well go. To Hermione, the entire house is decorated in orange and blue, with a 'GO SU!' flag on the front of the house.

Cho = Ravenclaw, Cedric = Hufflepuff.

Canon? Not against it.

The only house I can see having a problem with inter-house relationships is Slytherin, since the social aristoracy has a tendancy to not like people from another house on general and on principle due to the pure blood obsession.

I think Ravenclaw can go with anyone. Hufflepuff probably shouldn't go with Slytherin, just because there are so many muggles and half bloods in Hufflepuff. Gryffindor can go with anyone but Slytherin--way too much animosity there. And Slytherin can go with Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and the very rare Puff or Lion.
Just my opinion.

I think it depends on the House and the people. Generally speaking, I can see Slyth + Ravenclaw working out a lot better than, say, Slyth + Puff. However, I think it's a lot more dependent on the individuals than the Houses, since a lot of people who end up in one House may have just narrowly missed being sorted into another, and therefore have a lot of defining personality traits of a House they're not actually in.

Canon speaking...yeah, Gryf + Slyth would probably go over like a fart in church. I think RC could probably work well with any other House, or is at least probably the most universally respected of the four. Harry and Cho didn't work out, but that's not because Cho was a Ravenclaw. It's because she was a twat. And I'm sure all the houses have their share of bitches and assholes. I think it's just a matter of whether the different Houses traits complement each other, and whether the different Houses respect the traits that define the other Houses.

I'm going to go for the general sentiment that inter-house dating is fine if not BETTER. I REALLY wouldn't want to live with someone I'd been in a rocky break up with.

*ROFL* And for a real life example, all the RAs at my college specifically stated that we SHOULDN'T DATE PEOPLE ON OUR FLOOR. Floorcest is bad! I just get a mental image of standing in front of the mirror brushing your teeth, then having said ex-boyfriend walk in and choking in a fit of rage on your toothpaste. Not pretty, lol.

Depends on the people and how compatible you are. While I could totally see myself with a 'puff or 'claw, I don't think I could make it with a Slytherin (alothough I bet they're great in bed ;) ).

I like the idea of interhouse dating. It shows that opposites can attract (two people with different traits, and what they vaule, ect).

I guess it all comes down to the two people involved. It doesn't really matter which house they belong to as long as the love is shared.
