Alrighty. I have a question for all of you. If you could compose the cast of Harry Potter any way you want, who would you have in each of the roles? They can be any age, a character who has already been cast, etc.

My choices for a few characters:

Sirius: Don't get me wrong, I think Gary Oldman did a great job in that role, but he isn't at all who I pictured. I guess for me I would have gone with Ricky Paull Goldin, who playes Gus on Guiding Light. I think he would have captured that deep brooding perfectly.

Luna: Rachel Hurd Wood, who played Wendy in the latest Peter Pan. She has those beautiful starry eyes and is a wonderful actress. I think she would be able to capture the essence of Luna

Lupin: I would not recast David Thewlis. I thought he would have been terrible (I just have a stigma about him that all of his characters are evil) but I thought he was perfect. However, Ralph Finnes would have done a great job. However, he will rock my socks as Voldemordt.

Tonks: I don't think I'll ever see anyone but Gwen Stefani in that role. Her whole personality is that character. She definately would give the character the life it deserves.

Thats all I can think of for right now, but what do ya'll think? Give your imput on some other characters.

I totally agree with you on Gwen Stefani playing Tonks.

We don't know what Mad-Eye will look like just yet, but the guy who plays Filch already looks SO MUCH like what I thought Mad-Eye should look like.

I also really wanted Ian McKellan as Dumbledore.

Although Kenneth Branaugh's Lockhart is probably my favorite character in the movies, I don't think he's particularly attractive enough. Reading the book, Cary Elwes was my #1 pick.

Nobody's heard of him, but I am head-over-heels in love with Giovanni Ribisi... who would make an amazing Lupin, I think.

You know... I think there are a bunch of actresses who could do Tonks really well. Kirstin Dunst, for example, would make a good Tonks, as would Maggie Gyllennthannnal (or however you spell it). My personal pick would be Mary Louise Parker. I don't know why.

mm I love Cary Elwes. Now I am determined that he should be some other character.

I was just watching a show on HBO, and now I know who my (new) pet pick for dumbledore is: George Carlin, provided he could learn a british accent.

I pretty much love the whole cast, so I wouldn't make too many changes.

I think Jude Law would have made a beautiful Lockhart. I mean, the man is BEAUTIFUL!

And I really had my figures crossed for Ewan McGregor to play Lupin. I actually think he would have made a better Lupin then David Thewlis, just because he has more of a slightly ages yet still handsome look.

I pulling for Ewan as Lupin, but they set the age bracket for the Marauders when they cast Alan Rickman as Snape. No matter how you look at it, Alan Rickman is a lot older than Ewan. Which I don't mind of course, because Alan Rickman is my imaginary boyfriend, and I can't imagine anyone else as Snape.
[identity profile] crazymol4588.livejournal.com on October 3rd, 2004 11:58 am (UTC)
LOL, I agree. Alan Rickman is the PERFECT Snape.

i actually think ewan mcgregor would've made a very good lockhart. he has that whole charming smile thing down very well, i think :)
and i hadn't thought of this before but then [livejournal.com profile] saccarineayako suggested it...maggie gyllenhaal (i'm fairly sure that's the right spelling) would be so perfect as tonks! stupid british only actors. grr.
rachel hurd wood would be a perfect luna, too. but has anyone else here seen spiderman two? there was one character in it, a really minor character who only showed up two or three times, but when she came on screen i just thought 'OH MY GOD, IT'S LUNA'. but she's too old, her eyes just seem perfect. Mageina Tovah. (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1033193/)

Johnny Depp would've been great for Sirius. Still, Gary Oldman, was OMGAMAZING.
As for Lupin... I don't know. But I HATED Thewlis as Lupin. Um. HATED. Yeah. Still, not sure who I would've cast... possibly someone unheard of. Paul McGann would have lovely Lupin-eyes. He's too old though.

Yeah, Gary Oldman was amazing but Johnny Depp would have been another great choice!!! Go Johnny! XD

Johnny Depp as Sirius would have made my day. My 2nd choice for Sirius is
Michael Easton (http://www.livejournal.com/users/aurora_borialis/26426.html#cutid1) the 1st and 3rd pick just scream Sirius. I was freaking out when I glanced at the TV when my mom was watching the Soap Opera, "One Life to Live". He just looks so much how I envisioned him. I'm not sure on his acting, but he certainly looks like a Sirius canidate. JOhnny still has my vote though.

I agree, Thewlis as Lupin bothered me. The moustache killed me, after that I was done with him. Ralph Finnes would have made an awesome Lupin. The irony that a lot of us think he'd make a good Lupin, yet he plays Voldemort. lol.

I'd originally thought Rachel Hurd Wood would make a good Hermione, I never even thought of Luna. I think you're right though, with her eyes and that dreamy quality... She'd be perfect. :) You're totally right about Tonks, too! When I was reading the book, I couldn't get Gwen's image out of my head.

Branaugh's acting was AMAZING for Lockhart, but I really pictured someone really really hot in that roll. No offence to the man, but I can't see him having 10 to ?? year olds fangirling all over him. Maybe a blond Ewan McGregor? He could totally pull that cocky bit.

Alan Rickman is wonderful. He's what I pictured, thought not quite as skinny. Remus and Sirius on the other hand... Not so much. I don't know why. I think I pictured them younger, but with Rickman as Snape they couldn't do that I guess.

I think most of the kids were cast well.

Ian McKellan as Dumbledore... though I would have probably called him 'Gandalf' the whole way through XD

Johnny Depp as Sirius! I like that thought... but Gary Oldman was really good.

I agree with most of you who commented that Alan Rickman is the perfect Professor Snape. I could never ever see anyone else in that role.

Kenneth Branaugh may not have been as attractive as we would have liked, but choosing him in that character was a stroke of genius. For anyone who has seen any of his movies (specifically Hamlet) knows what a serious and professional actor he can be. It was a bit of a wink and nod to adults and Shakespeare fans alike. I love the sheer irony of the casting.

Johnny Depp would have been a brilliant Sirius. I can't believe I didn't think of that.

Ah! I didn't realize it was him in Hamlet. I KNEW he was familiar!
And he really was good. I might not have chosen him originally, but he was Lockhart. Every movement, every expression... :)
[identity profile] kelleypen.livejournal.com on October 3rd, 2004 05:33 pm (UTC)
Well, I would have made Keanu Reeves as Sirius, but I'm such a Keanu fangirl. But Johhny Depp sounds good too. I also think Vigo Mortenson would have made an awesome Sirius. As far as Lupin goes, how about Hugh Grant?
