Randomly,

does anyone know if and when they will begin production on the **counts on fingers** fifth movie??

My feeling is that they kinda need to hurry up with the filming of the movies a tad. Because by the time we get to movie seven, Dan, Emma, Rupert, and Tom will probably be too old to play Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Draco.

I think seeing how we've watched the cast grow up with the characters so far and this long, to have them switch actors would be...well, bad.

Oh I totally agree with you! I just can't see anyone else playing those characters now. And I THINK I heard something about early next year? But don't quote me on that one.

Here's a link that says a little about it. The release date is looking rather sad for us Potter fans.....

Well I know that they have Half Blood Prince schedualed to release on 2008 (It's listed online as tentative date)...so I'm gonna guess that the 5th movie will be released in late 2006 or early 2007.

I don't know what people have with their fear of having the actors too old for their roles. How many teenager / high school series are there around with actual grown-ups (partly even 30 years old) playing 16 year olds? I've read once that James van der Beek had to shave twice every day to hold up appearance. Besides, if people are all afraid that the student actors outgrow the adults, the camera can work on forced perspective, just like in the LotR-movies.
I don't want to see any other actors, and the film makers are well aware of the fact that none of the fans do. But I just don't see any time for panic yet. They ARE hurrying up. They're already working on movie No. 5, and I'm pretty sure someone's already working on the script for No. 6.
So, please, let's all calm down a bit. So far there's no reason to panic yet.

I definitely agree. I mean, on TV, almost all teens are played by actors/actresses who are at least 20. I went to see Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, in which the girls are supposed to be 16, and how old are the actresses playing them? 22, 23, 21, and 17. I watched Joan of Arcadia, and the actress who played 17-year-old Grace just turned 30. The tricky part of filming kids is the age they are right now in the HP movies because that's when their appearances will change most drastically, but once you get into 15/16+ (which would be book/movie 5 on), it's fairly easy to cast older actors in younger roles. I'm sure the HP kids will be just fine.

And as far as "hurrying up," I get the feeling they are absolutely driving to get these movies out as fast as humanly possible, but they have a lot of location shooting, a lot of large sets, a big cast, and freaking LOAD of post-production, so if the movies are going to be any good (which they clearly are), it's going to take time.

Besides, we need something to look forward to...eventually we're going to hit the point where everything (all seven books, all seven movies) is out, and then there won't be any anticipation left!

I thought I'd read somewhere that they were looking at January, but I could be mistaken. :/

They're already on pre-production.

I'm pretty sure that, although they'll be much older, since they pulled off PoA with them at their current ages, they'll be able to make them look a little bit younger. If they decide to change actors/actresses... I quit. That's it. I'll see the movies, but I won't fangirl over them.

Nicola is absolutely right. For instance, everyone on Buffy the Vampire Slayer was in their late 20's/early 30's, and the characters on that show were supposed to be in High School.

Ah, the wonders of cinematography.

And don't forget that the kid who played Gordo on Lizzie McGuire? Yeah, he was attending college at the same time he was playing a tween. I saw an interview with him about being pounced by a date's little sister. Freaked him out, apparently.
