Other Comms
We're really lucky to have people from three communities for the weekend, or at least, I think so!

I'm from [livejournal.com profile] hogwartsishome, and it's the only such community I've been a member of. I'd love to hear about the other communities. What sorts of things do you all get up to? Do you do House and Quidditch Cups? How do you earn points, if you do? What are the individual houses like? (I think it's no secret here, that in points-earning, our Gryffs are waaaay up there and *cough* Slytherins are... not.)

I think some of you are members of more than one of these communities. What do you like/dislike about them? Which do you prefer? How do they compare in your mind?

Of course, please be nice! It's okay to disagree with what other people have to say about the communities, but please don't phrase anything too harshly. We're here to have fun. And TWT is to learn about other schools, eh? :-)

Well, howdeedo?

I'm from [livejournal.com profile] hogwartsch. We're each sorted into different houses and like, [livejournal.com profile] hogwartsishome, we have a bunch of different communites to post in for contests, sortings, the main discussion, clubs, quidditch, diagon alley, lessons, and our most recent: the triwizard. Points are learned through doing our lessons, where each teacher grades it according to their grading system. Also, through contests, (icon making, making a poem about something, discussion topics, etc) sorting, and other things like that. =D

So far, the Hufflepuffs have won the House Cup for the past two terms. (Which I'm extremely happy for!)

I'm not a member of more than this community. Sometimes, I wish I was, but I don't have enough time to even keep up this community. T_T; Ah, well. Nice to meet cha Becker. =D

Ack, lessons! Scary! :p The closest we have to lessons here are the clubs at [livejournal.com profile] hh_clubs. If you join a club, you can do the activities as they're posted and earn points. I'm in the Restricted Section (literary) and Potions Club.

How does your Quidditch work? I'm a Chaser here, so I'm curious. In ours, Beaters ask two HP trivia questions of the Chasers, then the Keeper asks a third. If the Chaser(s) get them all right, they score a goal and possesion changes. If they're wrong, possession changes right then. The Seekers have to do a really nasty scavanger hunt, and whoever finishes first catches the Snitch. Slytherin won the Quidditch cup this past term (ended July 31).

Our Quidditch is... How do I put it... Not off it's feet. But I think your idea is a really awesome Idea. *Wants to steal idea*

That's a cool way to do it. We've been thinking about revising our quidditch so I'm gathering ideas.

If you want to see the way ours runs, it's at [livejournal.com profile] bwrightfield. You may have to scroll back a little ways to see the actual challenge posts since the answers/submissions to the challenges will be at the top. We also have cheer threads for points. :)

And yeah, there hasn't been enough interest to do Quidditch lately :(

I'm a Chaser on the Gryffindor team at HiH- it really is a lot of fun :D You should make sure to encourage your community, they really are missing out.

It's all fun and games until LJ starts randomly deleting our comments mid-game!

Oh my goodness, that Quidditch looks confusing. And really long. Our "pitch" is at [livejournal.com profile] hh_quidditch. Games usually last about three hours.

I think that the rules and system we use are shareable if you ask. Info should be on the userinfo. I know I read it somewhere once.

Interest is sometimes a problem with us. Our team had four out seven members, and played at least one game with only three (Chaser, Keeper/Beater, and Seeker).

We've had similar problems - and have had to get people to double up.

Three hour games sound really good, though. However, isn't getting everyone online at once a huge problem?
[identity profile] possibilities.livejournal.com on August 13th, 2005 04:17 pm (UTC)
A bit, yeah. Last term, we did polls for dates and times. This term, we just do the last Wednesday of each month and I think we may or may not do polls for times. It did work out, there never seemed to be a time where we couldn't at least get three people from a team on.

I didn't really pay attention to how times were picked this month, as I'll be on a 58-hour Greyhound trip and very much NOT at the game. ;-)

im also frm hogwartsch -
love the quidditch idea, and lessons arent actually that scary (im the professor for care of magical creatures) we do try to make the lessons fun - in my one last month i had the students concoct a recipe for a troll child...

Yeah, I think in our comm... RC won 3 times, HP won three times, Slytherin's won twice, and Gryffindor's won once. I think - going from memory here.

Apparently, you've got all the really active Slytherins! I demand you hand them over to us at once! *eg*

No. Though maybe we can share. (I've actually applied to your comm, though I rather suspect that a) I'm getting less Slytherin as I age and b) that application didn't particularly show any Slytherin traits I still have).
[identity profile] possibilities.livejournal.com on August 13th, 2005 04:14 pm (UTC)
I haven't looked at any of this week's apps yet. THat's what this afternoon is for! *headdesk* Are you still in the queue, or is your app up already?

[identity profile] slytherinblack.livejournal.com on August 13th, 2005 04:25 pm (UTC)
I was still in queue last I checked. I applied under a different name anyway so that my username won't TOTALLY bias people.
[identity profile] possibilities.livejournal.com on August 13th, 2005 04:34 pm (UTC)
Smart. If you have "slytherin" in your nick, some people would assume you're 'pushing' to get into Slytherin. Also, it always feel weird to sort someone who has a house name in their nick if you're sorting them into a different house. "Hmm, hufflepuff_girl, to Slytherin you go!" *g*

"Hmm, hufflepuff_girl, to Slytherin you go!" *g*

Hahahah, exactly. Though we had someone apply with RC in his name and I think no one sorted him there. [laughs]
[identity profile] possibilities.livejournal.com on August 13th, 2005 04:46 pm (UTC)
I love it when stuff like that happens. We have a lot of people who the Gryffs all vote for Slytherin, and the Slytherins all vote Gryffindor. Not quite so funny as yours, though!

I'm from housesorting. We're all sorted into our Houses, then we get invited to three communities. One is our House community, like I'm in houseofclaw. There, you introduce yourself to each other and discuss things like how to win the House Cup. Another is houseclasses. We have a staff of professors who post assignments from each kind of class. We do the assignments and earn points for our House that way. The final one, and the most populated one, is housepride. Everyone can participate there, and that's where you post conversations everyone can talk in, graphics, fanfics, what have you. Fanfics and graphics can gain points for your House based on what they are and their quality. Our House cup is an amalgamation of the points everyone from a certain House earns. Ravenclaw won in the winter term. We're also doing the Triwizard.

We're thinking of doing Quidditch/a Daily Prophet/both in the future.

Wow, only three! I'm a member of 14 HiH communities, but there's more that I'm not actually a member of. It must be easier to only have three to keep track of. :)

Yeah, our comm probably has around that many. >_> Though right at the moment there are definitely some that are more active than others. The main comm, the sorting comm, the lessons comm, and the holiday comm are our big ones.

I am a Ravenclaw in all three, but am most active by far here at [livejournal.com profile] hogwartsashome where I have almost as many jobs as Juppy ;) I can't expect why my heart is primarily with HiH except that I love my fellow officials and our members just so, so much. We are so much a family here and I don't know... I don't have a rational or concrete reason for it. I just feel more at home here than anywhere else.
