Greetings all
Just wondering what you all think about the Harry is going to die in book 7 theory? I guess this is kinda a depressing topic for hogsmeade but I'm just itching to know others opinions.I personaly don't think Harry will die but that *another* core character will :( *Kat hands you all free butterbeer to make u all feel better whilst discussing this*

It really wouldn't bother me too much if Harry dies. As it is, I think JKR might kill him off just so people won't beg for more books, plus when one thinks about it, it would be nice for him to be with his parents again. Really though, I just want Snape to live but don't see that happening either.

*accepts butterbeer and sighs* I wouldn't be surprised if he died in book 7, as Cedric, Sirius, and Dumbledore have already died, but I would be sad. I'm thinking/hoping that Harry will defeat Voldemort and live happily ever after, but that could just my personality kicking in. I'm a sucker for the happy ending. But JKR's under a lot of pressure to continue, as people have said, so I wouldn't die of shock if she killed him for the relief either. I'm trying to be optimistic and think that she'll let him live though. Since she's been on a roll with the killing off characters thing, I agree with you that she'll probably kill off someone else...though I can't think of who. Who do you think she's most likely to kill?

I just can't believe she'll kill Harry, and i hope not Heromine or Ron - but i wouldn't put it past her. If she keeps killing my fave characters, she has to do-in Lupin,Buckbeak and Fawkes. I think she'll surprise us though. Harry is the main character, and I think it would be all too painful and sad for him to be killed after everything he's gone through!

JKR has already made quite a few of people close to Harry die (his parents, Cedic -even though they weren't really close- Sirius and Dumbledore), I have quite a good feeling that Harry is going to die too. Harry is in Gryffindor and Gryff's are know for their bravery, I think he'll probably sacrifice himself just so everyone else he loves can live. Only if Voldemort dies too though ;)

I just wish Sirius would come back, I had to read that part of the book a few times because I couldn't believe it.

As much as I miss Sirius, I would be angry beyond belief if he comes back. If he's dead, he's dead. If he's not, we've dealt with SCREAMING ANGST ALL-CAPS HARRY for no freaking reason.

Bringing Sirius back seems like such a cop-out, and petty emotional manipulation. Therefore, I can definitely see JKR doing it. I just won't be happy.

Me too :o( As i said in another comment I still refuse to believe he's dead and gone. Sure he's not alive as such but i still think he has a part to play in book 7. I had more trouble with Sirius's death than Dubledore's because there was no body, no funeral no proper ending.

I was just trying to remember the wording of the prophecy -- wasn't it
"Neither can live while the other survives..."
?

In that case, I can see Harry sacrificing himself to kill Voldemort and save his friends. Then, both Harry and Voldemort die, but the world is a better place and JKR doesn't have to write any more books! Seems perfect to me! (Not that I really *want* Harry to die, but this particular scenario would at least make sense to me)

I can see Harry sacraficing himself to kill voldemort. That's pretty much all he's lived for. It wouldn't even be that sad of an ending. He'd be back with all of his gaurdians, anyone he has ever truly loved. But then gain if none of the weaslys die, then that would be incredibly sad. Harry and Ginny have to get married!

I don't think Harry will die. I think he'll get injured horribly, though.

I think that all of his friends will go help him out with the final battle, and that Ron might get killed. I know that's horrible, but that's my two cents. :-/

I can totally see this happening. Like I said in the post, I think someone important will die, possibly one of the trio :o(. So I still accept Harry could die, after Dumbledore anythings possible - but it would be so cruel. Although I can't stand the thought of Ron dying :o( Or Heromine :O( I want a happy ending dammit!

I don't think Harry will die. Ginny might die. I dunno why, I just thought it. I'm not a H/Hr shipper never. Really though, I don't think Harry's kicking the bucket, we'll have a nice happy ending for the books because he deserves it after all the crap he went through his whole life.

Like many people have already commented, I think Harry will definitely die for a number of reasons. One is that, once again as many people have said, it takes off the pressure of extending the series, and would close of Harry's story. She set out to make seven books in the beginning and there must be a reason, and I don't think that there can be any other satisfying end for our dear boy-who-lived other than death. That might sound morbid...but it's true. If you think about it, all of the books are so incredibly satisfying. Of course, there are always loose ends, but things get resolved and we can count on J.K. to tie up anything left unanswered. So, if Harry just goes on to live a normal wizard life... how unsatisfying...

Also, it just seems that the deaths have been building up, getting more and more personal and you know people are going to die in the 7th book - is she just going to take everyone away from Harry that means something to him? Naw, it's too much in Harry's character to sacrifice himself for others. His parents sacrificed themselves for him - it follows suit that he'd do the same.

And as for him and Ginny, I've been a huge Ginny/Harry supporter ever since she was introduced, but it seems like their relationship hasn't been building up enough or strong enough to the point where JK would be unable to leave them apart. I mean, even in the 6th book, it seems like their relationship came reallly suddenly (at least to the other Hogwarts-ers, definitely not the readers!!) and then disappated just as quickly. She didn't even put much detail into it, just litte snapshots of them being incredibly happy and then it ending and them both understanding and being okay with it. So, it just feels to me like they already had their relationship. :\

Anyways, sorry that was so long! To sum it up - Harry dies. haha

Agreed about Harry/Ginny... and they could never be together if Harry DOES survive because he's already such a celebrity that he can't be close to anyone without putting their lives in jeopardy.

As much as I hate to think it, I think Rowling will kill off Harry, but it will all be okay in the end because she'll have him be with his parents, perhaps they'll all be together in a painting in the Gryffindor tower or something?

Still - I'll be afraid to watch this movie if he dies. Lotsa screaming crying younglings everywhere :)

I honestly think he will die, he will die and drag voldemort with him, i mean think about it, Rowling said she wasnt going to write anymore books on harry and whats the easiest way to ensure that? by killing him off of course. Now mind oyu i dont want him to die but well i wouldnt be suprised if he did...

I really hope harry doesn't die, and i think killing him off just for no pressure of having to extend the series is an awfully crappy reason to kill him off. In fact, if Jo does that i'd lose all respect for her. I mean... this was HER imagination, she had it all envisioned at the beginning, and to change that for no pressure? Umm... just noo.

But here's a list of other people I REALLY hope don't die:

Hagrid- he's my favorite. I'd be heartbroken if he dies. He's just such a good-hearted guy and he just has had too hard a life to just... die. Before books 5 and 6 i've been scared that he'd die. As a bold gryffindor I don't cry very often, but I'd definitely get teary if hagrid died, and he's the only person who i'd be sad. It's just like... he's had to deal with SO much more than anyone and he means so much to Harry and he's just so nice and great. I mean he's not a good teacher, but that's forgiveable.

the trio- just... I just hope not.

People who should die:

Peter
Lupin
Voldie of course
and SNAPE! I mean, I used to really like Snape, but now i realize he's just bad, whether or not he's a death eater. I mean, if he IS then harrys gonna kill him, if he's good, then it'd be truly great literaturewise if he dies.

It's possible that Snape will die. I still believe that Snape is double-crossing Voldy and is faithful to Dumbledore (more on that when I'm not half asleep). I think that in the end, in the Final Battle, Harry still won't trust Snape, but Snape will surprise him by helping him, and may die in the process. *shrugs* Just a thought.

I think he'll probably die, because I don't think JK Rowling can handle the pressure of wanting another book, like a follow up of his life later or something if he lived. I think that Voldemort will also die, killed by Harry, and then Harry will get killed by someone else. Or they die at the same time or something.

I'm also one of the 'Snape is innocent' believers. It's just too obvious if he really did that. Although I don't like him all that much, I still think Dumbledore asked him too.

*drinks butterbeer happily* I personally think that he will die. The only reason I think this is: Some fans won't accept the end. I am willing to accept only 7 H.P. books. It makes me sad, because I love them, but I will get over it. Some hardcore fans might write to her about making more, using the argument "come on, Harry's not dead or anything!" I say she will just to be left alone. Plus Rowling kills off other main characters...I mean come on Dumbledore is like key and he died. Why can't she kill Harry now?! Sorry if this seems mean or anything. Just thought I'd offer my opinion. :)

I guess I'm in the minority here -- but I believe that Harry will survive through the end of series.

One reason is that when people ask JKR what Harry will be after book 7, she often says something along the lines of "What makes you think Harry will survive through book 7?" which is, to me, a tell that he will.

Also, I just find it hard to believe that JKR -- who is, technically, writing childrens books -- would kill off her main character, the hero of the story. [The childrens books is a whole different arguement, but it's sold in the childrens section of bookstores, and I'd rather not get into that debate here, as I understand that they are more than childrens books, but the logistics are the same.]

This isn't to say that Harry is going to live happily ever after with kids or something, and it also isn't to say that everyone is going to be safe, either -- I just don't personally believe that Harry himself is going to die.

Eh. My arguement isn't very coherent, but skimming through the comments, it seemed that most people believed he would, and I wanted to present a different side.
