Official Discussion Post #2
So far the participation has been pretty good. :D I've liked reading your responses to the Dumbledore discussion. (You can still add your reply! All discussions are open through the end of the weekend.) Also, the contest poll has several close runners, with plenty of votes by everyone. Have all of you voting also gone to [livejournal.com profile] hh_stamping and given your input on the applications? Two more were posted a few hours ago, bringing the total to 6! There are still 9 spots to be filled if you want to get stamped, too, but all posts need at least ten comments before the final stamp can be given and points disbursed.

But enough business! Here is today's topic:

How would you rewrite Harry Potter and the Philosopher's/Sorceror's Stone to make it a comedy rather than an adventure story?

Remember! First responses earn 2 knuts, all replies earn 1 point, and you can reply to each other or make stand-alone comments. There is no limit on how many you make, but please sign your comment with house and name if you want to earn the points.

That's exactly what I said about Quirrell, I think if he had a bigger role, it would have added a lot to the book. And you're right it is really hard since the books have their humorous parts :]

I'd probably add a lot more snarky comments from Snape. I haven't read that book in ages so I can't really remember much...

Yeah, Draco too. He's such a beautiful, evil creature, lol. Ha, the troll; maybe they could've had another female troll who falls in love with him :D

That's a good thought too. I guess you can never have too much Snape and Draco [at least from a Slytherin's perspective] AND I would also think more from Crabbe and Goyle would be hilarious. Those 2 are so dumb it cracks me up haha

Crabbe and Goyle are hilarious. Draco is awesome, he should insult them more and more, it's pretty funny because everything backfires on him though.

I would make it a case of mistaken identity. Not Harry, but everyone else around him. You know, have Quirrell be some bloke who had his memory modified....turns out to be some accountant from Stubblesfield. Along those lines. ;)

The books already have a lot that's ironic in them to start with. I'd just exaggerate it all. Dumbeldore goes from loveable wise-man to freaky old coot. Harry would be much more clueless than he actually is. Snape would swoop more. Magic in general would change completely, and would feature the occassional moment of complete redundancy, like three hours of ritual to produce a hot cup of tea. Voldemort would be reduced greatly or built up in interesting ways (Daily Prophet Exclusive: He Who Shall Not Be Named Seen Buying Gasoline From Elvis!) Finally, there'd be quote a bit more boy-humor. Harry is eleven, after all, with all the curiosities, Talks, incidents and foul ups that come with that age. Aa, it would be fun. Would that I had the talent.

I would probably exaggerate Quirrell's part in the book, keep him shy still but get him to do more funny things that you don't really realize are him until later when he reveals himself maybe? And Harry, Ron, and Hermione could have also been a lot more curious with their experiences. Maybe add some more students like Fred & George who love pranks and that's all they're good for?
