I recall seeing one often about Snape really being James, and that somehow he switched bodies with him before Voldemort attacked him and Lily so it was actually Snape that died and he's kept the cover as Professor Snape so he could be around Harry. Umm... yeah. I don't know where on earth that came from, but I've heard about it a few times over the past little while. Personally, I think it's insane for quite a few reasons :S.

OKAY, MY CRAZY THEORY (which I've never bothered to post before, so here you have it in it's fractured glory):
It isn't that totally crazy, because the conclusion it comes to is (unrefutedly) true. It's that the logic is probably crazy. It's like that scientist who faked all this data but no one noticed/called him out for it because he wasn't saying anything NEW, he was just reaffirming the status quo. Anyway.

It's about names. Now- we all know that JKR is all about her names. Take Remus Lupin. There is absolutely no way that she did not plan that name out. I did not understand the refrence the first time I read the book, but I was also 9 at the time and I was rather stupid.
Anyway, now that we have agreed that JKR frequently does stuff with names. Let's move on to the other Marauders.
Sirius Black Sirius = the dog star. The name of the star is actually derived from Greek and Latin words meaning "glowing" and whatnot, but it is now commonly referred to as "the dog star" as it appears in Canus Major which is the dog constellation. Sirius is a dog anamagus so this all makes sense.
Now we move on to James and Peter. It's striking that while Remus's and Sirius's names seem odd, James and Peter are common. In fact, Remus and Sirius are latin, while James and Peter are Christian.
James and Peter are also names of apostles. Now- I know that this is very non-striking because LOTS of people are, but we KNOW that JKR puts a lot into names so if we LOOK at them:
James Potter: There were actually two apostles named James- the Greater and the Lesser. James the Lesser was kinda boring, so we'll look at the Greater. He was awesome! He was one of the first to join Jesus, and he was a generally good guy. This is a lot like James Potter. He joined the OotP in (presumeably) the beginning, and just kept on being awesome until he was killed. In fact, St. James the Great was executed by King Herod- the leader of the bad guys, if you will. (Yes, I am saying that King Herod = Voldemort)
Peter Pettigrew: So now we come to Peter. He was actually named Simon, but Jesus asked him to change it. Anyway, he started out as cool, then he betrayed Jesus by denying him 3 times (until the cock crew!) and then he was cool again and actually became the first Pope. In fact, out of all of the apostles, Peter is right behind Judas for "least likible." In fact, the only reason we look at him as a good guy is because the Gospal of John lets him reaffirm his faith. Naming him Peter is almost like screaming "He's going to betray his friend!"

Now for the slightly subversive:
In the same way as St. Peter, if his name truly means something, will Peter come back to the right side? Will he be a deciding factor in the final battle? I dunno, and my post is already tl;dr, so I'll stop now.

One of my favorites was "Dumbledore is Harry from the future!". I think this is actually enshrined in the Unofficial Guides. How bizzare is that one? It was based almost entirely on the fact that Dumbledore seems to know all. >> Another was "Snape is a vampire", because he is bat-like, pale and swoops a lot. Also Snape is gay, because the man can swish! But honestly, any guy that wears robes can swish, so I don't really count that one...

My absolute favorite was the one that claimed Remus was actually James in disguise because Remus' middle initial is "J". How... pathetic is that?

Aberforth is really Albus. And vice versa. They switched places before going to the cave, so when Snape killed "Dumbledore", he killed Aberforth instead of Albus!! So Dumbledore will come back!! hahaha....I think Ive gone crazy.
