Harry Potter Symposiums/Conventions
How many of you have attended the fan-dom gatherings that have happened or will be happening. This year we have Phoenix Rising, Sectus and Prophecy. Are any HiHers planning to attend those?

My first experience in the fan-dom was at The Witching Hour in Salem, MA. I had a blast, met so many of the people who I knew from online, made a lot of new friends, as well as learned about different areas and interests in the fan-dom. It was really an experience because I went by myself and I really didn't know anyone who was going. At the time I wasn't as involved in all the LJ communities for the fan-dom, so I was pretty much a fresh face in the crowd. At the Welcoming Feast it was said that many of us had done this and we know must know what it is like for a first year at Hogwarts who comes from a muggle family.

This year I am attending Prophecy 2007 in Toronto. In fact I am on the Decade of Enchantment Ball committee, so I am involved in the planning of it. I'd love to meet up with some fellow HiHers while there. So let me know if you are going.

I wish I was. Time and money do not allow it. :( Something tells me that by the time I can afford to actually go to one, they will be over. I am curious about something though, how old are the people who go to them?

Actually, the people who brought Nimbus, Witching Hour, Lumos and Prophecy (HPEF) have already announced the plans for Dallas in 2008 and San Diego in 2009. So despite the books coming to an end they plan to continue with the symposiums.

As for the ages of the attendees. I was 46 when I went to the Witching Hour, there were people as young as in their teens and those in their 60s. I would say the majority was in their 20s, early 30s. But I did not experience a single bad exchange with anyone there. We are a friendly fan-dom.

Awesome. I'm crossing my fingers for them to continue until I'm out of residency

I would love to especially since the Harry Potter fandom seems to attract really friendly people but I'm afraid it will conflict with school, other things in life, and money.

BUT since it is the last book I really want to go all out... so I might go out of state (I live in Ohio) to one of the big midnight release parties but we'll have to wait and see ^^
