I haven't gone digging through the last eight-hundred-thousand posts this weekend, so I apologize if this is a double post. :D

What are your favorite Potter-verse words? What words do you just looooooooove reading//saying//singing//acting out in mime//etc? :D

Mine are "lumos", "sonorous", "Filius Flitwick" (YAY ALLITERATION!!), "bat-bogey" (I really like alliteration...) and "Incarcerous". :D

Discuss. :)

Avada kedavra. It has nothing to do with the spell itself...I just like the words. Though, I do not go around saying HP words...so it would have to be an 'enjoy reading' type of answer.

Nymphadora Tonks - I love saying her name!

Pretty much anything from Weasley's Wizard Wheezes - Nosebleed Nougat, Puking Pastilles, U-No-Poo.

Haha, U-No-Poo is pretty funny. I like the word "Hufflepuff" too. Bat-bogey has always amused me too. :D And Filius Flitwick is just a cool name, mainly because I like alliteration too! :D

Yes, haha, those are all very cool words. As for myself, I've always thought "Serpensortia" was awesome. And "Scrimgeour" is pretty cool for some reason, too. x) Ald "fellytone," haha. And you know, the House names are pretty cool, too. And "Morsmordre," too!

*twitch* "Sonorous" is not a Potter-verse word any more than "pumpkin" is. It might be used by JKR, but it is a real world word with a real world meaning. I'm pretty sure its English usage is traced back to the early seventeenth century (1611 seems to be the date I remember for it).

I'm such a linguistics nerd.

I like "mimbulus mimbletonia" for Potter-verse words.

I apologize, when I say "Potter-verse word", I suppose I mean "words that are frequently used in the Potter-verse". The words "bat" and "bogey" were both around long before JKR, but she brought them to our attention. I had never heard of "sonorous" before, so I guess I took it for granted that it wasn't your average word on the street. (I assume it's of Latin origin? lol, yes, I just looked it up and it is. :D)

Anywho, not a word debate. I LOVE mimbulus mimbletonia. That's such a wonderful collection of phonemes. :D She forces you to slow down with that one.

I use "sonorous" multiple times a week. More often than "bat", less often than "bogey" - but I'd never seen bat and bogey combined in meaning until JRK did it. Sonorous for her means pretty much what sonorous in real life does..

I wasn't trying to start a debate. But I love words. And, uh, etymology. I can't geek out about most things I study in communities like this (because I study religions) so I guess I can get waaay to excited when something comes up that I can geek out on.

Oh, I totally understand. :) I thought I had a pretty decent vocabulary until now! lol I really need to find a "word of the day" e-mail list....*has ridiculously poor vocabulary*

My vocabularly is probably just bizarre. I read the dictionary a lot as a child. I even had favourite dictionaries, like other kids had favourite picture books. (The Intermediate Gage Canadian Dictionary held that title longest.)

I heart your icon, even though I haven't seen episode 11 yet. :-)

OMG. These last two episodes have been SO GOOD. *dies* So much OT3 love. I was in fangirl mode for 42 of the 45 minutes of tonight's episode. SO AWESOME.

I've always been amused by the world "ger off". I dunno why, I guess imagining a bunch of little men screaming this at humans is too funny. :P

MUGGLE!

Cause it makes me think of a mug, both the cup type thing, and a person who is a mug. Brilliant word.
