Cut Scenes
Hey guys, I've been re-watching the movies lately so I've got a question regarding those: what book scenes were cut out of the movies that really ticked you off, or what scenes would you have REALLY loved to see in the films that weren't?

More of the Quidditch World Cup!!! I was really looking forward to it and was upset when they barely showed it.

Exactly. Anything Quidditch that was removed, I was and still am angry about. Especially the Quidditch World Cup! They showed Krum and then skipped right to the celebrations afterwards. I was confused the first time I watched GoF because even after everyone was celebrating the Irish win, I was still looking for the World Cup! XD

It was very disappointing, I remember sitting there @ the midnight showing and I was like "what the hell is going on here? Why no Quidditch World Cup?"

I completely agree! I was so excited for it, and we barely got anything. Even more annoying is the fact that the tiny bit they bothered to show was pretty great, so it could've been fabulous.

It was such a huge tease!

My biggest problem with the movies is that the identities of the Marauders were never revealed in POA.

YES!! I was really miffed about that. :[ It's an important bit, too, so I don't see why it wasn't in the movie. I was really expecting it to at LEAST be a deleted scene or something, but nope.

Few more:

-I wish the opening feast in SS had been more like the book, with everyone singing "Hoggy Warty Hogwarts" and Dumbledore being all giddy (I especially missed him saying, "Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!").

-I didn't like how they cut Dumbledore's line, "Fear of a name increases fear of the thing itself" out of SS and had Hermione say it in COS instead. I can't imagine a 12-year-old saying something like that, even one as brilliant as Hermione.

-I really wish they'd left in the Quidditch match in POA where Draco, Crabbe, Goyle and Flint try to make Harry screw up by dressing up as Dementors and he Patronuses them. ;)

-I also wish they'd left in Harry and Dumbledore's talk at the end of POA about why Harry's Patronus was a stag.

Yes, yes, yes and yes. I always dislike it when they give a character's lines to a different character, and they do it all the time with movies. Is it really THAT hard to have the right character say it?

And oh man I was so sad that they left out the Draco & Co. dementors scene, I love that part of the book, haha. Same with the stag explanation - that's such a great scene that helps connect Harry to the other generation; ditto on the Marauders bit, it's a shame they didn't take advantage of those. They shafted the poor Marauders all over the place. :(

I wish that they would have put Peeves in the movies and all the extra stuff in GoF during the maze like the sphinx. It would have been kinda cool to see Sevvie in his little grey nightgown too. :P

[identity profile] kreugan.livejournal.com on June 24th, 2007 06:27 am (UTC)
Hahahaha yeah the nightgown would've been sweet. And yeah, the challenges in the tournament could've all around been richer, especially the maze. And the lack of Peeves is so obvious and depressing, I wonder if they won't bring him in eventually. It'll suck if he's not around for the twins' "give her hell from us" line at the end of OotP. :(

Melissa//Gryffindor
[identity profile] nyyhoneybee.livejournal.com on June 24th, 2007 06:34 am (UTC)
If Peeves isn't around for that line, I think I'm going to cry. So he better be there!

[identity profile] haights.livejournal.com on June 24th, 2007 06:48 am (UTC)
Not seeing that part with Peeves in OotP would be too depressing. That's such a great line in the books and I honestly don't see how they're going to pull off that scene without Peeves.

Crystal//Hufflepuff
[identity profile] kreugan.livejournal.com on June 24th, 2007 07:24 am (UTC)
Yeah, it wouldn't be complete. ;) What actor do you think would make a good Peeves?

p.s. cute icon! <3

Melissa//Gryffindor
[identity profile] haights.livejournal.com on June 24th, 2007 07:28 am (UTC)
hmm, maybe Eddie Izzard? He's got natural humor oozing through him and someone that played Peeves would have to have that trait. Without the transvestite gear of course. :P

Thank you!

Oh man yes, he would be perfect. Haha he's so fun to watch no matter what he's doing; he's fantastic on "The Riches". :)

And you're very welcome!

WOOT!

The only thing I've seen him in is "Dress to Kill", but that alone was enough to make me a fan. I'll have to check out "The Riches" too.

I wanted to see Snape in his PJs in GoF and more of the Hedge Maze too.

[identity profile] kreugan.livejournal.com on June 24th, 2007 06:29 am (UTC)
lol everyone wants the PJs! Yes and yes, I agree. The maze was so badass in the book and then in the movie it was like "OH LOOK A CREEPY MAZE... ANYWAY MOVING ON" :(

Melissa//Gryffindor
[identity profile] nyyhoneybee.livejournal.com on June 24th, 2007 06:35 am (UTC)
I so agree about the maze! They cut out a lot from GoF....long book but they didn't do it justice, IMO

Well, in OotP. Ron = no brain or Quidditch scenes. *tear*

Trinh/Ravenclaw
[identity profile] kreugan.livejournal.com on June 24th, 2007 06:33 am (UTC)
Haha yeah, I just want more Ron scenes in general. :( And I mean more scenes where he's not just mugging or squeaking or something. Some SUBSTANCE pleeeeaaase. So sad that the movie's not even out yet and we already know Ron is getting the shaft.

p.s. how do we know this? lol maybe I missed a news alert :] tell me your secrets!

Me too! The world needs more of Rupert! Everyone knows it, too! The director of Driving Lessons said he cast Rupert because of the lack of screentime he has on HP. At least it looks like in OotP, he isn't a scardey-cat.

TLC reported it somewhere. It was a couple months ago, I think. I trust TLC.

That's awesome, I'm glad someone's giving the poor kid a chance. And so far it does look like the characters that've previously been limited to comic relief (Ron and Neville mostly, I guess) in the movies might be treated more seriously in OotP, I really hope that's the case!

And that's a fantastic icon. :)

p.s. I was snooping around your icons to see where you got that one, and I just wanted to say that I LOVE YOU for having all of those Thornton icons. <33 Oh man I need to own those DVDs.

I'm pissed they didn't include the part in GoF when Ron interrupts Harry talking to Sirius in the fire and they get in a fight and Harry ends up chucking a S.P.E.W. badge at him and he says something along the lines of, "There maybe you'll have a scar on your forehead, it's what you want isn't it?"

Me too! I loved that scene in the book. It was one of those little things that I just wanted them to keep in, but nope. :(

Were you happy with the movies overall? I wasn't expecting much more than the chance to see some cool scenes brought to life, so I guess I wasn't too disappointed. But I wish I'd been IMPRESSED at least once. I do remember liking how they handled Cedric's death in the GoF movie, though.

I LOVED the second movie, the others don't impress me much. I never expect a lot when I go to see them, I get excited but I always keep in mind that it's not going to be as good as the books. They are two completely different things to me.

there's so many things that could have been in the movies, like quidditch in ootp, more world cup and maze scenes in gof, more peeves in general, and more Marauders in poa. more ron in general as well. :)

Christy//Hufflepuff
[identity profile] kreugan.livejournal.com on June 24th, 2007 09:47 pm (UTC)
OH man I agree with you on each of those points. I was reaaaally displeased about how little attention the Marauders got, that was just ridiculous. Quidditch seems like a big sore spot for a lot of people, too.

AND POOR RON. I hope he gets some decent attention in OotP. :(

I know Rupert was really looking forward to filming quidditch scenes and now he won't get the chance. let's hope they throw some in during HBP.

I really was looking forward to 'Weasley is our king'. :/

I sort of got into HP while the POA movie was out. Watching it without reading the book was a bit odd, but it all makes sense now. :)
