What do you think about the Sorting Hat's song that included the warning for the houses to unite? Do you think that this would be good advice for the future of Hogwarts? Should the separation by house be stopped permanently?

Would you want to attend a school that separated you into houses and used a point system as Hogwarts does?

I would love to be at Hogwarts! The points and everything encourages the students to do good things at the school. And the seperation of the houses is smart. Why would you put a snake in the same cage with an eagle? Not such a smart idea

My girlfriend goes to a school with houses & points, and she loves it. But I think that in this case, yes, at least temporarily, until after the war.

As cool as the house system is, I don't think it's very smart. I know it's supposed to hone the favorable house qualities that the students have, but it also lessens the chance that they'll come to value the qualities of other houses. Now, if the house system were a random process, I think it would be better. Then, all of these students would be united only by their placement in one of four houses, not their personality qualities. This sort of diversity would encourage cooperation, not discourage it!

Also, I think it's a very silly notion to assume that a kid will still exemplify their house's qualities all of his/her life. People change, and it's natural! Why encourage these kids to cleave to one ideal for the rest of their lives?

So, yeah, in short- abolish it!

I agree with Jenna! I think a random sorting would be better than by personality. Putting all the kids with hot tempers and prone to mad deeds in one house is asking for trouble, as is not mixing up the more introverted and knowledge-loving students. I think they'd benefit more if they got to interact more with kids that aren't very similar to themselves. Then they could both learn from each other and have room to change and develop.

The point system is great making them attempt to do things and participate. It does segragate them a little bit but they could include things to make them less segragated. All in all it is difficult to not have segragation like that anyway so it is a fine system and I wouldn't mind attending. I must say I do hope that they try and find a way to promote school unity so that they have improved chances.

I think the houses should unite more and that Gryffindors and Slytherins against each other is silly and they probably don't even know the real reason why they don't like each other, except from what their parents tell them.

I wouldn't say it should be stopped, but there shouldn't be so much riding on being in a certain house.

I'm sure a lot of students get placed in different houses than what the hat wanted to put them in. like Harry, for example. I'm also sure that Hermione should have been put in Ravenclaw, but since she is in Gryffindor she gets to learn different values than if she was in ravenclaw, which isn't a bad thing.

Yes I'd love it. And like McG said, your house is like your family.
I'd just hate the whole Gryff/Slytherin stuff.
