Social Director Post: Dressing like Muggles!
Insomniacs might remember having a contest close to this last term - but this is your Ravenclaw Social Director wondering... what do you think your favorite canon characters would wear, should they need to dress like Muggles? Would they look like Muggles... or would they look like wizards dressing like Muggles? ;)

Why do you think they'd look like this?  Discuss your choices!

Pictures are fine, but try to keep any pictures small (less than about 500 px total, when length and width are added together)! Also, pictures are totally not necessary - if you'd like to just discuss the fashions of disguised wizards in text - feel free!

Here's an example:

I see this as something Mr. Weasley might wear. His fascination with all things Muggle makes me think he would love this hat, which someone has covered in keys from an old keyboard.

This one's wide-open, really - so have some fun with it!

Also, don't forget about the Whose Room? contest - you still have about 21 hours to submit pictures for it!

Voldie would wear a Nixon mask. The whole no-nostril thing, I s'pose.

You know, I always wanted a bit more detail about wizards actually wore. I mean yes, they wear robes, but what do they wear underneath? Trousers and shirts? Just undies? Are there any other styles of dress than robes? Because - really - what they wear in the films, with exception of a few of the teachers - is Muggle clothing. Even the school uniforms are just Muggle clothes with the robe on top.

But it's a good point!

My theory would be more that it depended on where/how one grew up. I mean, obviously, there are wizards with serious misconceptions of Muggle fashion - the descriptions of outfits at the Quidditch World Cup tell us that.

But then again, Muggleborns and Halfbloods would probably have very good ideas for what would "pass" as Muggle - as Hermione and Harry do. Ron might also have a better idea than others, since he is such good friends *with* Harry and Hermione.

A witch or wizard who has grown up surrounded only by witches and wizards might have less of an idea what is considered typical Muggle dress.

But... I have no idea WTF they wear under their robes. :)

I kind of wonder if they wear much of anything under their robes. I distinctly remember one wizard wearing a nightgown at the camp for the quidditch world cup. He didn't want to wear trousers because... *grabs book* because he liked feeling "a healthy breeze around his privates."

Molly would totally wear the same dresses she wears when she's at home. When she doesn't have her robes on, she looks like a Muggle (more or less) so there is no doubt she'd do just fine being incognito (as long as she remembers to not wear the robes). :)
