Soical Director Post; Wizard World Halloween Traditions
How do you think the Halloween traditions differ for Muggles and Wizards?
Do you think they trick-or-treat?
Do they dress up? They don't in the books, but maybe the main characters are too old for it, what do you think?
Since they are aware that Ghosts, Vampires, and Werewolves are really do you think they tell horror stories about them?
What about Haunted Houses, do you think they have them?

I think the major difference between Muggle and Wizard Halloween traditions (in those areas where they celebrate Halloween) would be that the Wizards would KNOW that there were real magical creatures and sentient beings that might play tricks on them and that they might just ask for "Treats" when they went "Trick or Treating" because they very well would KNOW that if they ask for a "Trick" they might get it!

I think that the younger kids would dress up (wizarding family kids not old enough to go to Hogwarts or another magical school) and go trick or treating. Maybe the older kids (since they would be in Hogwarts that time of year) would just do the feasting, but I bet they'd have parties afterwards with costumes and dancing and stuff on some years too. Also, if Halloween fell on a Hogsmead weekend I bet they'd have fun dressing up and just terrorizing the Village (in a fun way of course). I can't imagine the Weasley Twins not having some fun at Hogsmeade around Halloween...before they owned their joke shop!

I think that Ghosts, Vampires and Werewolves, even if you are a Wizard or a Witch, would still make for very good horror story fodder. Werewolves can still hurt you, so can vampires. Ghosts just make good spooky stories, even though not really so horrible, but the stories about HOW they became ghosts can be quite sad or horrid and scary. Even seeing a ghost, even though they may be purposely not frightening you, could still be frightening...think about the first time you would see Nearly Headless Nick!

Well, I think if they have ghosts at Hogwarts, they could have Haunted Houses too. Old abandoned places that curses or some ghost had been forced to haunt and cannot leave...even if you knew what the thing was that was there it wouldn't stop you from being afraid of it...especially if you were a kid and some other kid dared you to go.

Think about the Shrieking Shack...until they figured out what was really going on over there...

If you mean modern "Haunted Houses" for fun, then I don't know, maybe, even wizard kids can still be startled and really sometimes the gory part of Haunted Houses aren't that scary...they are just gory. But being startled...well that is scary for everyone!

I don't thing there would be dress up and trick or treating (at least not the extent that there is in the USA). I think they probably have parties and such, and tell ghost stories and have haunted houses. Think about it, the ghost stories and haunted houses have a chance of being REAL!

I really do think that Wizards have much more fun with Halloween than Muggles . In terms of the traditions, I believe nothing much will change BUT Wizards probably will love doing tricks than treats. & Dressing up will be more than just putting on costumes. Some could actually transfigure themselves to look what they want to be. Or drinking polyjuice to take on the form of others. It would be more fun knowing I can turn into a real mermaid for like 2 hours compared to be a person wearing a costume for the entire night. :D

About horror stories, I do believe they do tell but probably not of ghosts, vampires and werewolves since they are aware of them, but rather more on what is scary in the Wizarding world... like the Return of Voldemort or maybe something they might encounter in their daily routine... like the attack of a random boggart.

Although ghosts and all other creatures that goes bump in the night are known to them, i think Haunted Houses should still be around because they can be quite useful to ward off unwanted muggles from the area in general. They make good hiding places for people too.
