Social Post: Those Villainous Villains
Sleeping Beauty was just released on DVD, perfectly timed for Halloween, which was a smart PR move for a film with arguably the most creepy, evil, iconic Disney villain ever. This got me thinking: What makes a good bad guy? Where do we draw the line between delicious evil and reprehensible evil in our fiction? So let's talk about what Halloween's really all about: EVIL. (Gotta party hard and scare away those evil spirits, don'tchaknow!)

1. Who is your favourite fictional villain of all time? Why?
2. Who do you think is the most evil character in fiction?
3. Who do you think is the scariest character in fiction?
4. Who do you think is the most pathetic allegedly "evil" character ever?
5. Do you generally prefer heroes, villains, or anti-heroes? Why?

Zut alors! Another handy text box for your convenience!

Feel free to mention your favourite Disney and Harry Potter villains too, if you feel like it. ;D

4. Who do you think is the most pathetic allegedly "evil" character ever?

I love them all. A hero because he saves the day, a villian cause he makes the day need to be saved and the anti-hero because I can relate.

1. Who is your favourite fictional villain of all time? Why? Jareth the Goblin King. Glitter is evil right? Actually as far as true villians go, I'd have to say Scar from the Lion King because he's smart and just diabolical.
2. Who do you think is the most evil character in fiction? Voldemort. He kills without mercy.
3. Who do you think is the scariest character in fiction? Chucky the killer doll.
4. Who do you think is the most pathetic allegedly "evil" character ever? Captain Hook. I mean, c'mon.
5. Do you generally prefer heroes, villains, or anti-heroes? Why? I like the villians overall but Anti-heroes are also some of my faves. Characters that are uber badass rock.

1. Who is your favourite fictional villain of all time? Why? This is hard, but yeah, I'm going to say Maleficent. She is pure evil and she exults in it. A close runner-up is Ursula, because she has amazing tits and is unafraid of shakin' 'em.

2. Who do you think is the most evil character in fiction? Edward from Twilight, because he is abusive. >:[ He's seriously the first one I thought of. He is also evil for the effect he has on girls reading it, who immediately rush out and go "OH, I WANT A MAN LIKE EDWARD." No, you don't. You want a restraining order on men like Edward, dears.

3. Who do you think is the scariest character in fiction? Sarah Palin. Please say that she's not real and is going to go away soon, please. *cries* In all seriousness, though -- I think the Joker from The Dark Knight is scary as hell, and not at all attractive, except as a psychologically interesting character. D:

4. Who do you think is the most pathetic allegedly "evil" character ever? lol sorry Draco. The first evil thing you ever did took way too many book to get to, as satisfying as kicking Harry in the face was. Also, Voldemort is annoying and stupid and a sad deranged sociopath. YEAH, I SAID IT.

5. Do you generally prefer heroes, villains, or anti-heroes? Why? I prefer the anti-hero because I am an enormous angstwhore. ILU PRINTH THUKO. (Avatar reference) They also get a good deal of interesting and sympathetic character development, with enough conflict to make them compelling. Herro Satan from Paradise Lost, how yoo doin.

Yeah, I'm forgetting all my canons at the moment. Sorry. XD

1. Who is your favourite fictional villain of all time? Why?
After pondering this a while, I'm going to go with Captain Hook. Because he's a villain (and knows it! and is proud of it!) just for the hell of it. XD

Others: Two-Face, Eris (Sinbad), Ratigan (Great Mouse Detective), Scar (Lion King), Shego (Kim Possible), James and Jessie (Pokemon lololol), Dracula, the T1000 (Terminator), Jareth the Goblin King, the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park (XDDD).. uh.. XD Do the Malfoys even count anymore?

Being a *~Slytherin~* I like a lot of characters who are in the middleground, they switch back and forth, their loyalties are unclear, they work for one side but are actually independent, etc. So I adore Dilandau Albatou (Escaflowne), Xellos Metallium (Slayers), Norrington (PotC), Bela (Supernatural) etc. OH AND CROWLEY. God I love Crowley. XD

2. Who do you think is the most evil character in fiction?
Prior to Thomas Harris screwing him up so he just has *~emotional issues~*, Hannibal Lecter was a pretty chillingly evil character, because he was so ruthless and literally saw no difference between a human and livestock.

3. Who do you think is the scariest character in fiction?
God. Because he can do whatever he wants, has no system of morality (everything he does is by definition good, because he calls himself good), and has no accountability whatsoever.

4. Who do you think is the most pathetic allegedly "evil" character ever?
Voldemort. He was evil, but he also proved himself to be ridiculously stupid for all his cleverness. A lot of comic book villains fall under this category too, for being lame. XD (But notable ones, like the Joker, who give the good guy a REAL challenge, do not.)

5. Do you generally prefer heroes, villains, or anti-heroes? Why?
I prefer anti-heroes, usually. Characters who are reluctant to march off and sign up to save the day.

1. Who is your favourite fictional villain of all time? Why?

Er. Oh man. I don't really know. I probably would have said Captain Hook, but Kai beat me to it. OH I KNOW. Mrs. Coulter from His Dark Materials, I love her. :D

2. Who do you think is the most evil character in fiction?

I have no idea how to classify someone as "most evil". Umm... Probably the YED. Mostly because I actually sympathize with the heroes on Supernatural. XD

3. Who do you think is the scariest character in fiction?

I really don't read much scary stuff. :( But it seems like we're going with movies and TV shows too, so... um. That cannibal guy on Bones made me paranoid for DAYS. >.<

4. Who do you think is the most pathetic allegedly "evil" character ever?

I'm gonna have to go with Voldemort on this one. He was scary at first, but turned out to be really more insane and too focused on Harry to be very frightening. I mean, seriously, DH Voldie? Not that scary.

5. Do you generally prefer heroes, villains, or anti-heroes? Why?

I tend to go for the anti-heroes or the villains. Like, I'm not a big Voldemort fan, but I love the Malfoys. Some stories get me rooting for the hero, though, like Peter Pan and Supernatural.

1. Who is your favourite fictional villain of all time? Why? Clarence Boddicker. ;p IDK, he was a laugh-riot, but I was stamped as him @ [livejournal.com profile] villainy_stamp, + the whole mafia/drug lord fascination I have
2. Who do you think is the most evil character in fiction? Iago
3. Who do you think is the scariest character in fiction? The bedridden sister of the mother who commits suicide in Pet Semetary. Absolutely, real-life terrifying. After Annie Wilkes. Both Stephen King. Guess they don't call him "Master of Horror" for nothing.
4. Who do you think is the most pathetic allegedly "evil" character ever? Vincent Crabbe
5. Do you generally prefer heroes, villains, or anti-heroes? Why? I only like understated heroes...the ones who don't necessarily have a "saving people thing" but will do what is right when they're needed. The last ones you'd ever expect to behave heroically, which I guess is an anti-hero, but they need some kind of motivation (even if it is completely selfish) or else the plot drags. Villains, also, can drive excellent storylines, or at least provide interesting character development.

1. Who is your favourite fictional villain of all time? Why?
Villain-villain? Does it have to be a human? Because if it doesn't, I'd like to say the Aliens from the "Alien" movies. I'm a sucker for monsters *g*

And of course Dracula and Hannibal Lecter (I avoid even looking at the cover of "Hannibal Rising", knowing Thomas Harris screwed up big time by demanteling the basis of his protagonist *rolls eyes*).

Oooh, and the bug in the Edgar costume from "Men in Black"!!!

2. Who do you think is the most evil character in fiction?
I have to tell you, the most evil character is, I believe, Dolores Umbridge. She looks cute, she likes kittens, she pretends to be everyone's friend and, worst of all, she is ultimately convinced that she is always right and that what she does is neccessary. And if you try to proof her wrong, she simply won't listen.

Also, the woman from Jack Ketchum's "The girl next door", who tortured two little girls because she believed, as girls, they were evil by definition and NEEDED to be punished.

Characters like that scare me the most, because they absolutely believe in the ultimate *goodness* of their actions.

3. Who do you think is the scariest character in fiction?
Pennywise the Clown. I never even *finished* "It" nor did I ever watch the movie. I stopped reading the moment Pennywise was introduced; blood I can handle, severed body parts I can handle, mass killings I can handle--but Clowns walking over a frozen lake, holding a bunch of balloons that fly in the *opposite* wind-direction, is too much. I never liked Clowns before, because I have a thing with people wearing masks, but "It" scarred me for life.

4. Who do you think is the most pathetic allegedly "evil" character ever?
Dark Helmet, from Mel Brooks' "Spaceballs". I love him!
"Comb the desert!"

Ooh, and Lex Luthor from the "Superman" comics--puhleeez! Nothing he schemes ever works out and he never learnes from it.

5. Do you generally prefer heroes, villains, or anti-heroes? Why?
Heroes, spot on. I love the villains, too, but in the end I'd like to go home with the hero ^.~

1. Who is your favourite fictional villain of all time? Why?
This is really hard for me. I love villains and have many favourites. I shall just pick a couple ^^
Horror villain ~ Freddy Krueger most def. He's great. I also like Jigsaw b/c he's a genius. The Joker b/c he's funny and quirky as well as being a villain. Davy Jones b/c his story is tragic and Sweeney Todd for the same reasons as Davy Jones. The Horseman from Sleepy Hollow... Believe me I could go on and on with this.
2. Who do you think is the most evil character in fiction?
Most evil? Freddy Krueger given his behaviour before death. As well
as Pennywise & Cruella DeVil.
3. Who do you think is the scariest character in fiction?
This is hard. I love Horror films and don't scare easily but I get the creeps every time I see Pyramid Head and Pennywise from IT. Pennywise b/c I'm scared of clowns so a killer clown is not good X__X I'm not really sure what it is about Pyramid head ~ I actually think it's b/c his face is hidden. Like what's under there? :X Michael Myers is rather creepy too.
4. Who do you think is the most pathetic allegedly "evil" character ever?
Dude, there are way too many of those. I'm going with Leatherface actually. Simply b/c he was totally deranged and being evil and insane are two different things.
5. Do you generally prefer heroes, villains, or anti-heroes? Why?
I like Villains and anti-heroes. Valiant heroes irk me to be honest but sometimes I find a hero I like. Not that often but it does happen.

1. Who is your favourite fictional villain of all time? Why?
Wow, that's a hard question. Um, let's see... Well, the most "badass" villian must be Ursula from The Little Mermaid, because she is fabulous. At the same time, I have a tiny voice in the back of my head that's screaming Sephiroth and Liquid Snake (from Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid, respectively). Which makes me think of Revolver Ocelot, also from MGS. I mean, just look at his story (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolver_Ocelot) plus, it's canon that he was in love with (the very male) Big Boss. So yeah, I think my vote falls on Revolver Ocelot.
2. Who do you think is the most evil character in fiction?
The most evil? Um... The first name that pops up in my mind is Voldemort, but I don't know if I want to say that. So, half a vote to Voldemort and my other vote goes to... Ursula. Yeah, I'll pick her.
3. Who do you think is the scariest character in fiction? Hm. I think I'd say Alexis from God Child. He's untouchable and works so much from behind the scenes, which makes him scary in my opinion. He's much alike Voldemort ("He's in the way; kill the spare him.") but unlike Voldemort, we only see Alexis a couple of times. And all those times, he is chillingly calm. That is what's scary. Voldemort shrieks too much.
4. Who do you think is the most pathetic allegedly "evil" character ever?
Clayton and Gaston, from Tarzan and Beauty & the Beast, respectively. True, both of them are "evil", but they trigger too many "Are you for real?"s to be taken seriously. You feel almost happy when they fall down into the abyss, just because you finally get rid of them. Still, they do give you a few laughs, so they're good in that way. "No one hits like Gaston, matches wits like Gaston. In a spitting match nobody spits like Gaston..."
5. Do you generally prefer heroes, villains, or anti-heroes? Why?
Anti-heroes, hands down. Heroes are too goody two-shoes and makes me gag, while villians are hard to do right. Anti-heroes are often a bit more than just two-dimensional, though they're still pretty stereotypical. To tell the truth, what I really love are messed up characters that can't be placed in just one category (House, Wilson, Remus, Sirius, etc.).

1. Who is your favourite fictional villain of all time? Why? SCAR. Omg. I just love how diabolical he was, and he had the best henchmen EVER.
2. Who do you think is the most evil character in fiction? Frollo from Hunchback of Notre Dame (movie version, I never read the book) - he imprisoned Quasimodo and taught him he was a monster, he was going to execute Esmerelda because she wouldn't take up with him, he wasn't above manipulation and deceit and murder of innocent people to accomplish his goals... yeah.
3. Who do you think is the scariest character in fiction? Delores Umbridge. D= Oh god, just the lengths she went to try and silence Harry, and the fact she was always trying to be everyone's friend, and the power she had? She was a more effective villain than Voldemort was. It's chilling/.
4. Who do you think is the most pathetic allegedly "evil" character ever? Whoever said Gaston from Beauty and the Beast had it right on. I can't stand the 'evil' characters who are that DUMB and arrogant.
5. Do you generally prefer heroes, villains, or anti-heroes? Why? Hmm. I can't stand the gallant hero stereotype. I like villains when they are done RIGHT and aren't buffoons, but I tend to like anti-heroes the best.

1. Who is your favourite fictional villain of all time? Why? I love so many villains, it's hard to choose. I've gotta go with my top 3. 1. The Hitcher, because he is a cockney nightmare. 2. The Joker, because he's completely mental. 3. Mr. Burns, because he's eeeexxcellent.

2. Who do you think is the most evil character in fiction? That's another tough one, I think there are a lot of great evil characters out there, but I suppose Mr. Sauron is a huge jerkwad.

3. Who do you think is the scariest character in fiction? I don't get scared really, but I honestly think the Joker can be quite the mix of frightening and adorable. That is a dangerous mix.

4. Who do you think is the most pathetic allegedly "evil" character ever? Zombie Marvel superheroes. I think they're evil, I don't know. All I know is that they're a dumb idea and the book was ridiculous. It was just an excuse to draw Captain America as a bloody zombie.

5. Do you generally prefer heroes, villains, or anti-heroes? Why?I love the villains and anti-heroes. I'm such a sociopath at heart that I tend to relate more with the folk that aren't trying to do good, then those that are. Plus, bastards are funnier than saints.
