SEEKER SEARCH
1. Find the origin and definition of the following names and provide a link to where you found the info:
albus dumbledore:“Albus” Latin for ‘white,’ especially the flat white of stones or clothing. “Albion,” an ancient and poetical name for Britain comes from the same root.
“Percival” Knight of King Arthur's roundtable who was granted a glimpse of the Holy Grail. Albus shares this name with his father and Percy Weasley.
“Dumbledore” 18thC Eng. word for ‘bumblebee.’ Rowling says she wanted to associate his name with bees because she imagines him wandering around the castle humming to himself.

sirius black: Sirius=seirios (Greek) meaning "burning;" Sirius=the "Dog Star," the brightest one in the Canis Major ("Great Dog") constellation; a pun on the fact that he can change into a big black dog.
http://www.hplex.info/wizards/sirius.html#name

minerva mcgonagall:Minerva was the Roman goddess of wisdom. McGonagall's last name comes from poet Sir William Topaz McGonagall.
http://www.hplex.info/wizards/mcgonagall.html

remus lupin: The mythological founders of Rome were Romulus and Remus, who as a babies were suckled by a she-wolf. Lupin means wolf in Latin.

6. Find these and type them out: book 1 - page 8 (random paragraph)
"I know you haven 't, said Professor McGonagall, sounding half exasperated, half admiring. "But you're different. Everyone knows you're the only one You-Know- oh, all right, Voldemort, was frightened of."

book 2 - page 6 (random paragraph)
Harry couldn't feel too excited about this. He didn't think the Dursleys would like him any better in Majorca than they did on Privet Drive.

book 3 - page 7 (random paragraph)
It's amazing here in Egypt. Bill's taken us around all the tombs and you wouldn't believe the curses those old Egyptian wizards put on them. Mum wouldn't let Ginny come in the last one. There were all these mutant skeletons in there, of Muggles who'd broken in and grown extra heads and stuff.

book 4 - page 5 (random paragraph)
But Frank did not leave. He stayed to tend the garden for the next family who lived in the Riddle House, and then the next -- for neither family stayed long. Perhaps it was partly because of Frank that the new owners said there was a nasty fee ling about the place, which, in the absence of inhabitants, started to fall into disrepair.

book 5 - page 3 (random paragraph)
Harry opened his eyes. If they had reached water-skiing budgerigars, there would be nothing else worth hearing. He rolled cautiously on to his front and raised himself on to his knees and elbows, preparing to crawl out from under the window.

book 6 - any page ending with a DOUBLE ZERO (random paragraph)
100: "A wise decision, on the whole," said Dumbledore. "Although I think you ought to relax it in favor of your friends, Mr. Ronald Weasley and Miss Hermione Granger. Yes," he continued, when Harry looked startled, "I think they ought to know. You do them a disservice by not confiding something this important to them."

book 7 - page 99 (random paragraph)
“But hopefully it’ll look like I’ve gone away with Mum and Dad; a lot of Muggle—borns are talking about going into hiding at the moment,” said Hermione.

7. She looked down at him quietly, her long red hair falling in a curtain around her face, making her skin have a warm glow in the afternoon light. Harry's eyes were half closed as he studied her features, lazily trying to memorize the pattern of freckles scattered across both cheeks as she ran her fingers through his hair lazily.

It was a perfect day; not too warm, with a light breeze blowing the scent of wildflowers over the grassy hill. They were close enough to the Burrow that Ron would have no trouble finding them when dinner was ready, but far enough away that, for once, they could enjoy this blissful moment of privacy. It was that which Harry treasured: he loved the Weasleys, loved them more dearly than they would ever be able to fully realise, growing up as they had in a house full of warmth and love and laughter, but sometimes he just needed Ginny. Sweet, radiant Ginny, with her smile and her laugh and her smart and quirky comments and the way she teased him and the way she touched him. Just her, and nothing else. Not the past, not the rest of the world. Just Ginny.

"Do you ever think about it?" she asked suddenly, breaking the silence. Harry stared up at her for a long moment in confusion, and she smiled slightly. "You know. School. The.. stuff that happened. Him."

He closed his eyes, focused on the sensation of her soft fingers on his scalp, the sweet breeze, the smell of the cleaning spell Mrs. Weasley had cast on her clothing mingling with that achingly familiar perfume of hers. It was quiet on this hill, and it was just the two of them. A flock of birds were passing overhead, chirping at each other as they did so, and he thought he could dimly hear Ron and Percy laughing somewhere. He opened his eyes.

"No."

Part 1
1.
Rowling's elderly headmaster at St Michael's Primary School, Alfred Dunn, is claimed as the inspiration for Dumbledore. The name "Dumbledore" is an old Devon word for "bumblebee" and was picked by Rowling because she imagines him wandering around the castle humming to himself.

Possible name derivation: Sirius=seirios (Greek) meaning "burning;" Sirius=the "Dog Star," the brightest one in the Canis Major ("Great Dog") constellation.
