Official Points-Earning Activity: COMC - Results

Activity: Pin the nose on the Pygmy Puff
Points: First/Second/Third/Participation - 50/40/30/10 points.

OK, so several people got darned close to pinning the nose exactly, but in the end there can be only one winner...or can there. That's right, we actually have a tie for first place.

First place: [livejournal.com profile] valykire_lisa of Slytherin
Second place: [livejournal.com profile] pasta_and_pepsi of Gryffindor
Third place: [livejournal.com profile] myene_01 of Hufflepuff

Here's out little Pygmy Puff and all your guesses (if you would like to know which dot is yours, comment and I will show you):

In the end, the results where that close that I almost had to award a tie. You can see from the pic below how close it was in the end:

Good job everybody! But I thought since this was in Hogsmeade that it was not just for Care of Magical Creatures. It didn't say that in the challenge post either.

Normal club rules apply for club activities and I double checked this with the Hogsmeade mayor and the HiH Club Mod before I posted these results.

Ah sorry, this just seemed to be the only one that follows that line of thought. Still, congrats to everybody that was in the club. And the ones who participated otherwise.

I applied to be added to the roster a while ago here (http://community.livejournal.com/hh_clubs/601792.html?page=2#comments)

This is part of a October 2014 Hogsmeade activity. Please do not delete until after November 1, 2014. Thank you!

It would have really helped if you'd mentioned somewhere that you were going to be the only club leader who required participants to be on your roster.
[identity profile] hellkat75.livejournal.com on February 24th, 2009 02:43 am (UTC)
I'm can't speak for the other club leaders but all club activities require you to be on the roster. This is a blanket rule of the HiH Clubs and I won't apologize for following it.

Just to butt in momentarily, I was under the impression that we had a choice as to whether to require people to be on the roster or not for Hogsmeade activities, and that most people did not. I saw you checked with the mods first, so good on you for doing that! But this is my fourth Hogsmeade and I could swear being on the roster was explicitly not required for most activities in the past. I'm not chiding your decision here at all, but I just wanted to point out that I don't think most club leaders are disregarding rules, we're just following precedent that indicates that we don't have to require people to be on the roster for Hogsmeade stuff. :)

Anyway, I'm not arguing about your points or anything (your club, your rules!), I just didn't like the insinuation that everyone else was blatantly disregarding rules when at worst there seems to be some confusion and conflicting precedent regarding what's acceptable.

I perhaps used the wrong choice of words out of anger at being attacked to begin with. I have amended my intial comment as you will see.

Sorry about that!
[identity profile] silveredaccents.livejournal.com on February 24th, 2009 03:30 am (UTC)
I actually wasn't aware of the distinction either, so I ended up emailing/IMing/etc two people on my own activity to ensure everyone who participated got credit. I was so confused myself. Anyways, maybe we should make this a clubsmod info thing since some of the newer mods weren't aware.

[identity profile] slyfoxesq.livejournal.com on February 24th, 2009 04:17 am (UTC)
Word. Apparently we're really SUPPOSED to require roster signups. XD; I always figured it was optional since I didn't want to require people to sign up just if they wanted the points for doing every activity (plus I knew that in the past, St. Mungo's and Animagus hadn't required membership first). I'm just going to let the couple non-roster people keep the points since it was my mistake and I'll know better for next time!
[identity profile] ex-http://alight.livejournal.com/839 on February 24th, 2009 03:05 am (UTC)
Kai says you have a choice about that. Unfortunately, that's something people don't know about unless they're a club leader or have been a member for awhile. Most of the people on that list are new members who have never been to a Hogsmeade weekend before (including me!). We don't know the unstated rules; we don't know the precedents. When no one tells us we have to join the club and no one penalizes us for not being on their roster, we assume we're not required to do it. There's no way we could know we'd skipped a step until someone says, "lol, btw u dont get pointz".

So I'll accept that I messed this up, but the rules/instructions need to be clarified somewhere. The club leader needs to mention whether or not you have to be a member of the club to get points. That would have saved you from having to make a list of eight people who wasted their time.
[identity profile] smilingplatypus.livejournal.com on February 24th, 2009 03:54 am (UTC)
Yeah, I'll add myself to the list of newbies who weren't sure whether we had to join the clubs to participate at Hogsmeade. I don't have a personal problem with the Magical Creatures activity (I didn't get a chance to participate in it anyway) or with the modding (since it's been established that it was a legitimate decision), but it might help future new members if there was a notice at the beginning of the weekend about club membership. :)

I was a coward about the whole issue and stuck to activities from clubs which I had already joined, or to activities which explicitly stated that I didn't need to join.
[identity profile] slyfoxesq.livejournal.com on February 24th, 2009 04:21 am (UTC)
For the record, I explicitly stated in my activities that you didn't need to be a member to participate. This does seem more like it should just be a general clarification issue (although I'm not sure if it should be each club leader's responsibility to remind members of the rules - at least in my house, Prefects are sure to fill new members in to avoid this kind of confusion :x). I consider it sort of a matter of politeness/kindness for club leaders to post general rule reminders and alert people when they're not on the roster (rather than their obligation).
[identity profile] ex-http://alight.livejournal.com/839 on February 24th, 2009 04:39 am (UTC)
I wouldn't even care or be talking about this if I had been the only one who made this mistake, rather than of a quarter of the people who participated. :/ It's just a little internet game, it's not a big deal, but I assumed Hogsmeade was a kind of weekend-long "free for all" where we weren't required to be registered for things, since they're not regular club posts. Nowhere does it say "you must be on a club roster to earn points", and the challenge posts themselves don't mention it. They say, "Not a member? Join here!" but those just look like advertisements for the regular club. [livejournal.com profile] hh_clubs makes it very clear that you have to be on club rosters for activities posted in that community and anyone who misses that isn't paying attention. That's not the issue. :)

It just needs to be made clear and obvious that we're supposed to sign up first for Hogsmeade activities. This could have been have been an activity that required effort, like an essay or banner contest or a scavenger/treasure hunt like yours, and then ... it would have been very sad to see eight participants disqualified. :(

Oh, is it important that you misspelled my name?

In Mel's defense, she wasn't the only club leader to require membership during this HW. I did, and so did OPS, though both activities specified that in their posts.

I think we've all learned to try to be as specific as possible from this. I know I personally try to warn people when they're in danger of losing points, but that's not always possible, especially when activities are on as short of deadlines as they are during Hogsmeade.
