Today's Topic: Harry Potter RP

How do you feel about RPing? is it fun, or do you prefer to leave the characters in the hands of their creator? Are you active in any RP's? if yes, what character(s) do you play?

I haven't RP'd but I think it's fun to watch others do. I think however the person wants to run with the character is great.

I don't RP, although I've helped a friend RP. I don't find it very entertaining. My time would be better spent making graphics or working on stories to be published. I may RP with my friend since she'll probably be the only one to convince me to try it :)

Weeeeeell, The first time I tried to RP was at the request of a "friend".

She had invited my to do some Post-War HP-verse RPing and she pretty much used it to be really mean to me and just blame it on "the Character".
I was assigned a 2nd year Hufflepuff and she was a 5th year Slytherin and just went to town on "my character".

Her boyfriend then let me know why she had assigned me the role and the set up.

Soooooo that left a bad taste in my mouth.

She just wanted to be mean to me.

Sarah//Slytherin

I mean, It's not my fault her boyfriend was attracted to me...

I LOVE to RP. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I've never RPed Harry Potter, though. I don't feel like I've formed enough of a ~connection~ with any of the HP characters to feel comfortable RPing HP. All of the RPs that I have been a part of are AU, so it feels more like I use the canon character as a template and then add my own interpretation as well.

I started RPing in 2002, but I don't think I've tried it since 2005. It's really, really fun but takes too much effort for me. I KNOW, DON'T ADMIT THAT ... I KNOW. I'd play for a week or two, then get bored and wander away. I made some amazing friends and some of them are still around 6 years later. :')

I RPed with an RL friend once and that ended with her calling me "Black" (I always played Sirius) and threatening to kill me. In person. Because she ... she played Snape and all I can say is .

RP is my favourite form of writing. I love that you create the details of the story on the fly, and if you have a particular interest in the character you're playing then it can really help you to understand their motivations in the canon story (not that you'll necessarily get what JKR specifically was trying to portray, but you'll have enriched your own experience of HP).
It's just... dynamic and exciting and always so very, very fresh. I'm not so keen on RPs where writers just jot down dialogue and nothing else, though, I like it to be a proper story :)

Does this mean you usually write in 1st person?

I'd love to RP but I don't feel as if I'd have the time and there is not yet a character that I'd feel comfortable playing. I might have a go sometime in the future though :)

Before, I really couldn't see what could be so very fun about RP. I mean, in a fic you could stage everything yourself and get the response you needed/wanted.

And since I actually started RP, I realised this is actually what makes RP fun--that you don't know the response and sometimes get something completely different than you thought, so you need to work out then and there how your character will react. Also, it feels like a more real communication between the characters because they're actually played by two different people.

This sort of assumes that the person you RP with is fairly good at it, though.

I'm really only active in one comm at the moment, cause I don't have time for much else. It's Marauder era and follows canon as much as possible, and I play Lucius Malfoy. Don't even ask me how I ended up with it XD. But it's a lot of fun to let out the snake in me through him, even though I've chosen to portray him softer around the edges before Voldemort shows up.
And it's a lot of fun, especially cause I lovelovelove my partner in crime who plays Narcissa <3.

For the last 3 months I've been RPing James Potter who is in his 4th year. Its fun, Marauding with Sirius, Remus and Peter. His relationship with Lily is odd, he's confused. Its all good fun.

I have lost many hours of sleep planning out character developments, planning what will happen, and just RPing.

It can be addicting if you love your character enough and you have fun with the people playing the other characters.
:D

I'd never RP'd before one was set up at the comm I mod - and as a Mod I thought that I'd better join it, to set the example. I took the character of Lily Evans in a Marauder era game and I LOVE it. Since I started, I've taken on Lily at 3 other RPG's, plus Andromeda Black and Alecto Carrow. Lily is my favorite though.

I've tried to do it seriously but just never felt like keeping up with it. Though, if there is a character I'm really interested in and they haven't already been extensively written by the original author, then I'm all for delving into the character's backstory. I tend to make things darker than they appear ^_^

I ADORE capslock RP'ing though! XD

I love RPing, although I've been doing it for so long that I've kind of burned out on it. I used to adore playing somewhat major characters (Draco in particular) and finding a balance between making them in character by canon standards, as well as making them my own. I've also played Luna Lovegood, Neville Longbottom, James Potter, Sirius Black, Millicent Bulstrode, Narcissa Malfoy, and Marcus Flint, plus a few OCs. I feel like I could play almost any character, if I'm given the time to get under their skin, but those are the only ones I ever had any lasting enthusiasm for. XD

Well, if you had asked me two years ago, I would have asked you why I would waste my time on something like that.

However, I stumbled across an RP site that I was willing to...test. Now given I eventually had to leave because a number of things made RP=work for me instead of fun...BUT!

I am starting up my own forum for HP becuase I've never RP'ed on a HP forum before...

and I am playing Ron becuase he's my FAV. Of course, it is AU so I can play him as a Death Eater because that's when he is the MOST fun.

xD

I really love exploring characters in RPs. And I love taking minor ones and transforming them into complete fully fleshed characters. I rarely play major characters (largest exception being Sirius Black, atm). I play Frank Longbottom, Galen Gryffindor (Godric's son), Sirius Black, Magenta Comstock (one-liner), Lysander Scamander, Caterina Burke (extension of Black family tree by another player), Ciarán and Áina O'Liathain (Helga's children), Barty Crouch Jr, Druella Rosier (Black sisters' mum), and Medea Yaxley.

Yea it's a lot. >.> <.< I'm currently half-resisting the pull to make Griselda Marchbanks.

I play Frank! He is.. er... considerably different to most people's ideas of him, but I echo you on the love of fleshing out a little known character.
How do you play him? :D

I enjoy reading scripts from other people's RPs if they're particularly funny or well played. I've also read several excellent stories based on RPs the author was involved in, so I have a great deal of respect for the creativity that comes from it. However, I don't know that I would ever feel comfortable enough to try it myself; one of the things I enjoy about writing is that I can go back and edit it excessively whereas the fun of an RP is in the spontaneity.

I admittedly didn't even know what RP was until this year when my husband filled me in on the meaning! ((blush)). So, it's probably needless to say that I never have indulged in it. I can see the appeal and where it might be fun, but it's just not my cup of tea. :)

Oh, RPs... I haven't done it for ages now, but I remember that my last Harry Potter RP was rather cracktastic and everyone was gay, LOL. But that's why I love(d) them so much, you don't have to be too serious about what you're writing, even though we brought in the most dramatic scenes, and if some things don't make enough sense, well, it's not like you're going to post it somewhere else.

I love this question :P I love RP!

I play two Sirius-es (and Yes, that is a word now) and sometimes Gilderoy Lockhart and Charles MacMillan. Sirius is definitely my favourite though. The people who RP the Maruaders are my friends and I love them so it makes RP all the more fun <3 Plus I can relate to Sirius like 98% so :3

Canonwise I've played Luna and Hermione, Luna being my favourite.
She's more natural for me to write, I believe.

I have been an avid RPer for so long that I cant even tell you how many games i am in. I currently co-mod one of my own creation, and I am a member os several multi and pan fandom games. Most of my characters are in the HP world, and I have several that are of my own creation. But if we are talking canon, I play Luna Lovegood, George Weasley, Padma Patil,Narcissa Malfoy, Fleur Weasley, Rowena Ravenclaw, Katie Bell, Albus Dumbledore, Cedrella Black(Grandmother to all the Weasley's). But my favorite to play is Luna because I can get inside her head so easily. Her personality is like mine so I think that is why I can play her. And George, well, it's obvious why I play him. He's funny and my fave male character. :)
