So, who caught Live 8 today? Did anyone actually get to go to any of the concerts, or did you just watch it on TV? What did you think? Who were you thrilled to see? Or not? And, hey, Do you remember Live Aid (and here you show your age)? Any other thoughts?

OK, just wondering.

Cheers All

I saw Alicia Keys and a bit of The Killers before I fell asleep. It was really good, I think it's so awesome.

My Global teacher took a day out and told us all about Live Aid. It was great. I'm 16 :)

I saw it. And I also started at Alicia Keys and the Killers. I was excited to see Pink Floyd, but I was forced to turn it off early because I friend that was visiting found herself depressed when she realized how much they had aged. --;

I don't remember Live Aid, but my parents had fun reminiscing. My memory is terrible anyway, so I'm not sure I would remember it. (I was young.)

I watched some of it on MTV earlier. I saw Bon Jovi, Coldplay and Destiny's Child before I had to leave. I really hope that they are successful in getting world leaders to listen. It's such a good cause.

Was a bit disappointed to have missed Paul McCartney. Did the Spice Girls wind up reuniting? That would have been humorous. *grin*

Showing my age here,

I remember the first Live Aid concert, I was around 18, so very very into the music at that time, now I don't really listen to a great deal of todays bands, but still great to see the oldies, such as Pink Floyd, The Who and Paul MacCartney perform yesterday. One of my friends was co ordinating the concert at Hyde Park, brilliant for them to see that sight.

I watched a bit of the concerts and saw some highlights. A lot of people have been critical of the musical side of Make Poverty History but I think it's raised a lot of awareness, which was the ultimate point. Although there was a survey done of American concert-goers and half of them thought the gigs were in aid of 'world peace' or 'a famine', so I'm not sure there's been that much publicity of the issues over there :S

I don't have any faith that Blair or Brown will push the issue at the G8. And there's no way that Bush will do anything. He says he'll cancel debt but only in exchange for cutting aid. Just... what??? And Mr Capitalism won't exactly be in favour of Fair Trade.

But all you can do is keep trying, I think.

fair trade? what is this 'fair trade' you speak of? sorry.

really, yes, I think a bit more global awareness is all you can hope for. And I think the confusion as to what the concert was in aid of was, yes, due to lack of publicity of the issues, but also due to the mixed messages that some of the performers/presenters seemed to give the crowd. The masses will follow their idols. If the idols don't have a clue what they are talking about when they get out on the stage, then the masses don't learn anything. I know I got confused at a couple of points, and I knew what it was about.

I watched a lot of Live 8 as CTV had a recap on all night. I really enjoyed Sarah McLachlan and Josh Groban, The Killers, The Barenaked Ladies, etc. I was disappointed that they didn't replay Coldplay though. I think it was really a great concert, and a lot of fun to watch.

As for what it will actually do for Africa, I'm quite skeptical. Petitions are generally relatively useless, and in spite of the enormity of it, I doubt it will affect the G8 leaders much. As a Canadian, I hope Paul Martin will listen, but I have my doubts.

^^ More sites to support the cause, and it is definitely a great one. I'm generally not for the bracelets (although I do have a Livestrong one, but they've really become a fad), I may attempt to buy a ONE bracelet.

CTV coverage was pretty good I thought. I'm really glad they did do the highlights because with the time zones (yea BC) and summer and all , I wasn't up for a chunk of it. And yes, it may all be useless in the end as far as its effect on the G8 leaders, but there's at least the possiblity that it raised a little bit of global awareness, and that's something.

I had the TV on most of the day. Music blaring. Friends and such. Loved seeing Paul McCartney, The Who, Pink Floyd, Sting, and Elton John. And Bob Geldof doing "I Don't Like Mondays".
I would have loved to go, but getting to Hyde Park was not in the cards yesterday.
It is bothersome to know that so many people had no clue what this was for.
Also, the fact that they only added the Johannesburg concert at the last minute, after being criticized.
Best publicity stunt within the publicity stunt: The 'This girl had 10 minutes to live' speech, and then bringing her out.

And I was like 8 when Live Aid happened, so I remember it happening, but I couldn't really tell you if my memories of it are actual memories of it, or stock video footage.
